My TBR pile is getting awwwwwfully short. Anyone read anything good lately? I am looking for recs in urban fantasy, horror or SF. Oh, and fantasy. I do love me some fantasy. I’m not a huge romance reader right now, (although a paranormal rec or two would not go unappreciated). Because I write it, I don’t usually read it. Doesn’t mean I don’t LOVE it, just means I’m already immersed in the genre 24/7 and need for my leisurely reading to take my mind elsewhere. Also, I’m NOT into reality very much. 😉 Give me something fantastic.
Small press recs or mass market recs would be best. No ebooks ONLY because my ebook reader just broke (wah!) and I usually read in bed. I spend all day on the computer and don’t want to read there too. I will be replacing my ebook reader soon because I’m normally a huge ebook fan. But if it’s an ebook-to-print book, that’d be fine! I’m thinking of buying a kindle, btw, but only if I can get small press ebooks on it. I still need to find out.
Anyone got any suggestions for me?
Right now I’m reading the fourth Lilith Saint Crow, Saint City Sinners. I’m also reading The Gypsies Stole My Tequila, by Adrienne Jones.
have you read any Eileen Wilks? Her lupi books (Tempting Danger, Mortal Danger, Blood Lines and now Night Season) are really good. Romantic elements but they’re about 35% of the overall plot. I can’t say enough about her writing, she’s brilliant.
Patricia Briggs – Moon Called, Blood Bound, Iron Kissed – again, the romantic elements, especially for book 1 and 2 are like 10% of the story. The last one it’s a bit more but still, it doesn’t get that much page time.
Karen Marie Moning’s Darkfever and Bloodfever. Dark fantasy, not much romance at all. The second book really finds itself and when I say dark, esp with book II I mean dark.
I think I rec’d the Carrie Vaughn Kitty books to you already – if not, I love those.
I know you can get Samhain books via the Kindle but I don’t know about everything else.
by Lauren January 10th, 2008 at 11:10 amJust ordered the new Eileen Wilks release, Night Season, and finally got around to reading Lara Adrian’s Kiss series, love it, and don’t know why I waited so long to start it.
I am also a big Tara Janzen fan and just bought Cutting Loose.
Did you read Shannon Butcher’s, Stairway to Heaven yet? It came out last year and is really, really good.
by Cathy M January 10th, 2008 at 12:02 pmI second the Patricia Briggs and Eileen Wilks rec.
I’d also add Eve Kenin’s Driven, Nora’s Angel Falls, all the Nalini Singh books if you haven’t already read them, and definitely all Jeri Smith-Ready’s books too.
by Ann Aguirre January 11th, 2008 at 3:03 amHello!
I just finished Witch Fire and wanted to congratulate you on a story well done. I also enjoyed the sneak peek for Witch Blood.
I love urban dark fantasy, and one series that I’ve discovered recently is The Signs Of The Zodiac by Vicki Pettersson. Definitely worth a look! As for sci-fi, Idlewild by Nick Sagan is amazing. It’s the first in a series.
I enjoy your posts on writing! I had to laugh at the aliens landing on your front lawn entry.
Cheers,
– D
by Dee G January 15th, 2008 at 5:18 amI’d also recommend Halfway to the Grave by Jeanine Frost and The Devil Inside by eJenna Black. Enjoyed both of these immensely!
by Merry January 22nd, 2008 at 12:14 pmSigh. I meant Jenna Black.
