Into the Darkness, by Delilah Devlin
A woman’s hunt for pleasure knows no rules . . . and no boundaries.
Escaping from a tragic past, Natalie Lambert arrives in New Orleans and falls victim to a series of strange, unearthly attacks. Now, for the first time in her life, Natalie aches with sexual desire. Confused, frightened, out of control, she struggles desperately to understand a world that is transforming around her. But soon she will be powerful and magnificent in ways she could never have imagined . . .
A ruggedly handsome Cajun policeman, Detective Rene Broussard has come to rescue Natalie in her time of greatest need. And when he inexplicably wakes in bed beside her—both burning with a lust impossible to deny—he doesn’t care that a dark and vengeful enemy has brought them to this moment. All that matters is the irresistible curve of her body, the heat of her passion . . . and the forbidden pleasures the night promises.
With one sharp, sensuous, biting kiss, he will be hers for life . . . and beyond.
Want a chance to win it? Comment and answer the question below. I’ll draw a winner tomorrow morning. One entry per person, please.
Do you have a remarkable phobia? Does your phobia have a large impact on your life?
Or do you have any odd nervous habits?
My answer: I used to have a fear of tornadoes that was so bad a mere watch would make me have panic attacks. Then last January (yes, January), one side-swiped our house and almost took off the roof. Now my fear is gone. Weird, huh?
THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED
i’m soooo glad, living in Missouri, that i’m not freaked by tornados, i don’t like em, but don’t fear them……my biggest fear is financial, living on a fixed income i always worry that there won’t be enough $, but like most worries, it’s best to just live day by day—-and take what comes…tornados, high gas prices, the car breakin down, someone gettin sick—what will be -will be.
by JACKIE YOUNG October 3rd, 2008 at 1:21 amUsed to fear needles for injections and blood draws. Somehow talked myself out of it but I still will not watch someone else have an injection or blood drawn. I know someone who fears bridges and will not visit a nearby town because it requires crossing a bridge.
by Lindsey Ekland October 3rd, 2008 at 2:53 amI have one phobia that’s more irritating than anything. It’s not a fear of heights, but a fear of having nothing beneath my feet. It usually occurs when I’m high up in the air and there’s nothing under me. For instance, I hate ferris wheels. Just having that slim piece of metal under my feet does not give me any security that I won’t be falling to my death.
And that’s a new fear I’m having lately. Death. Not dying, I have no problem with that, it’s a part of life. But what comes after the dying part. I have this fear that I’ll still be completely conscience but I won’t have any senses. I won’t be able to hear, see, feel, touch, taste nothing, but I’ll still know that there is something going on. That my kid is still living and I can’t be there with him. It’s a little irrational and it hits at odd moments, but that’s a really huge fear of mine right now. It really started once my son started moving more and started discovering things on his own. He’s learning about so many new things right now and it’s fun givning him his first taste of various things that I want to make sure I’m there to witness everything. Yeah, this has been bothering me a lot.
by Jackie (Literary Escapism) October 3rd, 2008 at 10:11 amI live in KS and tornado’s I can stomach yet big hairy spiders I cannot…not even a picture of one! As a child I had a book all about spiders and I kept it locked up because I couldn’t stand the pictures!

Snakes. When i was five my brother (the jerk) dropped a snake down the front of my jumper, it bit me 14 times on the stomach before my grandfather could get me to hold still long enough to get it out. My hubbie and I rehabilitate animals and he got in a 6.5 foot long Boa Constrictor. I had panic attacks being in the same room with the animal until the day that he was at his EDJ and we got a lot of snow. It knocked out the power to the garage where we were holding the animals, and in order to save the snakes life i had to move it into the main house, but couldn’t move the tank with the snake in it. I managed to get the snake into a canvas laundry bag and move him into the heated room, then move the tank and put him back where he belonged without really thinking about the fact that I was terrified of him. My hubbie tried to use the story to get me to allow him to keep the snake instead of finding it a new home, but no dice i’m still afraid of them. i just couldn’t let an innocent animal die.
by Valerie O. October 3rd, 2008 at 4:22 amGood morning Anya,
No, not really. i don’t like heights, spiders, snakes, or airplanes, but it doesn’t control my life. I deal when faced with any of them.
Thank you,
by Susan Bussey October 3rd, 2008 at 4:58 amSusan
I don’t do well with heights and do try to not let it bother me too much. If I am somewhere high near an edge I usually have a hold of someone’s hand or when alone just try very hard to tell myself I can handle it. I am doing better, but still have to think twice when heights are involved.
by Shari C October 3rd, 2008 at 5:02 amFast spiders that when you turn your head back are gone. I can handle the slow ones. Although I now have a cat that knows the word “spider” so she comes running to play whenever I say it. 🙂
by Natasha Armstrong October 3rd, 2008 at 5:09 amI fear the WATER…don’t know why, that’s just the way it is. I can’t swim and don’t even float. I’m just a stinker, er I mean, sinker. I don’t like having things control me, so I went snorkeling this year while in Mexico. Glad I did, but I was terrified. The guide was great about it and served as my water-taxi, hauling me all around on a life preserver while my face was in the water.
by Shirley October 3rd, 2008 at 5:28 amSpiders! It doesn’t have a huge impact on my life, but has definitely caused a few moments of panic when one popped out from somewhere unexpectedly, or if I needed to get to something and there was a spider in between me and it! There will NEVER be any pet tarantulas in this house!!!
Thanks for the giveaway!
by shaunesay October 3rd, 2008 at 5:29 amI have a fear of bees, wasps, yellow jackets, spiders, snakes, big dog, crazy small dogs, cats, heights, etc. Overall, it affects me in that I have severe allergies to bee stings and spider bite and have had to be treated for it; I just am scared of big dogs. I am allergic to cats. I just don’t like heights too much, but still force myself to ride rollercoasters. And I don’t run into as many snakes now that I am no longer living in Arizona, so guess out of sight out of mind? I will say that because of all these issues I am not much of an outdoor person and definitely don’t do the whole camping kind of life.
by Preye October 3rd, 2008 at 5:49 amI can’t stand the sight or thought of blood!
by Cheryl McInnis October 3rd, 2008 at 5:52 amAll other nasty bodily products don’t bother me, I am constantly cleaning up after two kids and a dog and two cats and the various stuff that they spew out regularly, lol. but if they are bleeding, uggh.
It has definitely affected my life, when I had kids…..thank goodness for my husband because I couldn’t bear to look at my c-section scar to change my bandage, I would pass out. Also, I always wanted to be a veterinarian; but obviously had to change my career plans, can’t have your vet fainting out during surgery!
I fear deep water, snakes, bees and heights. I don’t think any of my fears greatly impact my life.
by CrystalGB October 3rd, 2008 at 6:03 amI don’t have any phobias but I do chew my nails. I used to chew them all the time and I quit but then I started chewing just one and now I only chew them on right hand except my pinkie, I know weird.
by Dena October 3rd, 2008 at 6:04 amI don’t have any really bad phobias. However, I absolutely cannot stand moths…I know very weird. They absolutely freak me out to the extent that someone has to get rid of them the minute I see them. They are totally disgusting!!
I do have the habit of playing with hair. I have done this since I was a little girl and my parents tried to break me of it several times…even cutting my hair really short, but I still to this day play with my hair.
by Lori T October 3rd, 2008 at 7:22 amI wouldn’t say I have any phobias that interfere with my life, although I do have quite a few fears-many are ones that have been listed above.
by Jen October 3rd, 2008 at 7:25 amAs far as nervous habits, I sometimes click my thumbnail against my teeth (which is incredibly annoying to those around me).
My fear is of heights and its a very new fear I started having a few years ago. The truth is I used to be nervous about earthquakes. The idea of not having solid ground under me. Then my aunts took me on a trip and forced me to go up into the St Luis Arch without telling me that the building sways. And well, that day there was a lot of wind and the building was moving all over. I was so scared once I got stuck up in the Arch that a nun who happened to be up there came over and was comforting me. LOL I finally got down off the Arch but developed a new fear of heights. Earthquakes no longer scare me as a while back I experienced a very very light one.
by LadyVampire2u October 3rd, 2008 at 7:39 amI don’t have a consistent phobia–though I’ve had the occasional vertigo attack while driving across one of those looooooooong bridges, or the rarer panic attack before giving a speech during a very very stressful time in my life.
And I probably have nervous habits, but I haven’t made a note of them…
(unless doodling while on the phone with my mother counts?)
by azteclady October 3rd, 2008 at 8:08 ami hate potato bugs, i will run in the opposite direction and scream like a girl.
by ann marie October 3rd, 2008 at 9:12 amI don’t like spiders or snakes, I try to stay away from them…
by Eva S October 3rd, 2008 at 9:25 amThe only phobia I have is claustrophobia – can’t stand to be in tight spaces or stuck in a large crowd – I get antsy and feel like running! Guess I wouldn’t make a good vampiress, huh?
by Lynn S October 3rd, 2008 at 9:34 amI had a fear of drowning so I took a scuba diving course and became a certified diver. It helped me get over my fear by helping me have a healthy respect for the water.
by DonnaB October 3rd, 2008 at 9:35 amI hate bugs! They really ick me out if they get on me. As for nervous habits, I jiggle my foot. But hey, that’s not so bad. I burn 10 calories an hour doing it.
by Stacie Mc October 3rd, 2008 at 10:19 amIn the area I live, there is about four bridges over rivers (two over the Ohio and two over the Muskingdum)… my fear is walking across those dang things! I’ve always had a problem doing that. I remember once my brother had to talk to me, while I walked close to the road to get across it.. Another time when my ride home after work didn’t show (they forgot me!) i had to walk home. That was such a trip, especially since my legs were like jelly once I completed it.
Nervous habits? Nail biting, I can never grow my nails long.
by Raonaid October 3rd, 2008 at 10:26 amMy phobia is falling from high up… I hate ladders and the Ferris Wheel! 😐 Nervous habits… I flick my fingers alot when I first get in the car or sit at the computer a long time… do not know why!
by Colleen October 3rd, 2008 at 10:53 amI am sitting here trying to think of what I am afraid of and how it effects my life. I am not keen on heights, but it doesn’t stop me from doing things I need to. I am afraid of the dark, at least of being out where I cannot see what is around me, but yet again it does not stop me from doing what needs to be done. I am afraid of being alone, but I am still single and have been for several years. I decided a couple of years ago that I was tired of games and was more interested in a relationship than something simple. I would have to say that the thought of living alone is my greatest fear, because of it I am living with my mother when I am not working out of the state. I have lived alone and it really does scare me, when I live alone, I don’t go out, I just go to work and come home and sit in front of my computer for hours at a time talking to anyone that will talk back.
by Dianna F October 3rd, 2008 at 11:06 amAs for odd habits, that is an even harder question to answer. My job is probably my oddest habit. I am a carnival worker, so I literally travel for 6 months at a time. I keep trying to get away from it but for some reason I keep ending up back in the field. The work allows me to read or do crafts or now that I have a laptop to sit on the puter and talk to friends while working as long as I am not busy. I also tap my foot when I am trying to work though something, or play with my tounge ring.
When I get nervous I turn into a huge lip biter – if I get bad I cut my lips up and they bleed 🙁
Otherwise I am scared of spiders, heights, clowns, and (believe it or not) seaweed. I get so freaked out when I am swimming if a piece touches me, yikes!!!
by becky October 3rd, 2008 at 11:44 amI don’t have any phobias or nervous habits.
by Estella October 3rd, 2008 at 12:54 pmI’m afraid of heights, but it’s not so bad that I can’t stand on a balcony or a ladder. Public speaking makes me very nervous.
by Jane October 3rd, 2008 at 1:28 pmNo big phobias, but I really don’t like ants or spiders. I hate the way spiders hang out on the ceiling over the bed, like they are going to drop down and choke you if you open your mouth while you are sleeping.
by Anne Jones October 3rd, 2008 at 1:55 pmHeights gets to me, I have that feeling of falling and there is no control.
by Dina October 3rd, 2008 at 3:49 pmI don’t handle bugs well and I get somewhat claustrophobic. I don’t do heights well either.
by Larena Wirum October 3rd, 2008 at 3:56 pmNo, I don’t think I have any fears that qualify as phobias. I’m probably too blase that nothing bad will ever happen…
by Nicola O. October 3rd, 2008 at 4:42 pmBesides the typical spider phobia I have one with driving. I don’t like to change lanes and I won’t drive parkways. I have no sense of direction which doesn’t help. so mostly I do local driving but it sure does keep me from doing things!
by catslady October 3rd, 2008 at 4:46 pmI used to have a horrible phobia of all insects. But I got over it by subjecting myself to the insects. Picking up spiders and setting them outside, or catching crickets and putting them outside. But I can’t get over my phobia of bee’s, wasps, hornets. They just freak me out.
by Mary Kirkland October 3rd, 2008 at 7:04 pmFear of going into deep water, only because I can’t swim. But not really a phobia because I can be on deep waters in a canoe without fear. I have dreams where I’m suffocating and can’t wake up.
by Sue A. October 3rd, 2008 at 8:48 pmI have a fear of driving which definitely affects my life. I drive when I have to but even though I went through a couple years when I was driving 90 minutes every day I still hated every minute. Oddly enough, I’m not afraid of “normal” things like snakes, spiders, public speaking, flying, etc.
by Cynthya October 3rd, 2008 at 9:36 pmWell, I’ve always had a fear of driving over a bridge over water. I keep envisioning having an accident the vehicle going into the water & being trapped.
by Michelle B. October 3rd, 2008 at 10:02 pmMy biggest phobia is snakes, can’t stand them. I remember the first time I watched Raiders of the Lost Arc with the scene with Harrison and all the snakes I thought I was going to have a panic attack.
