Sven Check-In & Other Things

I hope the American peeps had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We celebrated at my house and I cooked up a storm (I like to do that) and we all ended up with fat, happy bellies.

Here am I with Wicked Enchantment. I’ve revised my first draft target to 85k, since I know I’ll add so much during the second and third drafts.

I wrote about 10k this week, despite the holiday sucking up a bunch of my time. The story is flowing very well at this point.

In other news, ZOMG!, it’s almost time for Witch Heart to release (January 6th)! That just hit me the other day. Yipes. Time flies.

Here’s the book vid, for those who didn’t catch it the first time around.

Oh, and Frauke from Crocodesigns decorated my site for Christmas. Pretty, yes?

The Chosen Sin is a Recommended Read

The Chosen Sin is a recommended read over at CK2S Kwips and Kritiques.

Anne says in part, “THE CHOSEN SIN is a fantastic blend of the futuristic, erotic, and the vampire. Anya Bast demonstrates a unique flair at creating such an unusual and yet oh so captivating world populated with multidimensional characters. THE CHOSEN SIN is absolutely a must read!” You can read the whole review here.

Also, Harriet Klausner recently reviewed Witch Heart, third in the Elemental Witches series and due out on January 6th.

“The story line is fast-paced from the onset with deadly Tevan relentlessly tracking down the heroine while Adam and his coven do everything they can to protect her. Fans will enjoy the third bewitching blast as the witch and the handmaiden fall in love, even as the enemy keeps on coming to steal the elium without regard to Claire’s well being.”

So, are you all ready for Thanksgiving (‘Merican peeps, anyway)? I’m cooking dinner for a small crowd, about seven people, some of whom are vegetarians (which always makes it interesting). Martha Stewart is on in the background and making me want to cook artichokes. We don’t normally do a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, so I have some leeway. I might do cornish hens instead of turkey.

What are you making for dinner on Thursday? Something traditional or not so much?

My husband picked number 16 this morning that means Wendy won it! Congrats, Wendy. Drop me a note via the contact form on my site and I’ll get it out to you.

Thanks for playing, all. 🙂

Sven check in. I wrote 9k on Wicked Enchantment this week (1k on another project).

I’m aiming for 95k total on Wicked Enchantment, but I always end up adding in at least 5k on the second draft. Off to write for the day!

Better Late Than Never…

Reminder: I’m guest blogging over on Jennifer’s Random Musings today. Check it out, ‘cuz I’ll be giving away a copy of The Chosen Sin.

OH! And Witch Heart (January 6, 2009) got a great review in Romantic Times! (I can’t believe I forgot to post about that).

“This pursuit novel rockets forward as the protagonists fight to stay alive and face their growing attraction to one another. Fascinating secondary characters all cry out for their own books. Here’s hoping the talented Bast will oblige.” Four Stars.

Contest for Undercover

Okay, I won’t torture you all that much. Leave a comment and tell me what you’ve read lately that you really liked. Or tell me about a book/books coming up that you’re looking forward to. Or tell me about some of the books you’re going to buy this holiday season as gifts.

Let’s talk about books.

Everyone who comments will be entered in a drawing for a copy of Undercover, by Lauren Dane. I’ll announce the winner on Sunday morning, so you have until then to enter.

Ready, set…go.

Lookee what zeh cute UPS guy just brought….

Are you jealous?

You should be.

A sexy debut exploring an erotic future universe of passion, danger, and deceit…

On the battleground or in the bedroom, one woman and two men fight for dominance in a bold, new, and excitingly different direction in erotica…

As a lieutenant of the Federation military, Sera Ayers is accustomed to giving orders, not taking them. Now she must obey the one man she can’t stand—and can’t stop thinking about.

With the enemy Imperialists gaining ground, a covert team is assembled by Ash Walker. Ten years before, Sera had lovingly submitted to Ash’s dominance in the bedroom. But when he was forced into a political marriage, she refused to play mistress. His marriage now over, Ash wants Sera on his team—and back in his bed.

The third team member, Brandt Pela, has an elegance to match Ash’s savage sexuality. And when their undercover plan requires Sera to pose as Brandt’s lover, it ignites a passion among the three of them more dangerous than their mission.

But this copy (no matter how painful it might be for me to part with it … I have my own copy coming…) could be YOURS, all for the discount price of showing up tomorrow for details on how to enter into a drawing for it.

I just need twenty four hours to think up a suitable idea for how to give it away. *hmm…how shall I torture the readers? How ever shall I….*

Check back tomorrow!

I know I’ve been absent…

…but it’s because I’m writing. Wicked Enchantment is coming along very nicely.

Check back soon, though, because I’ll be doing a contest to give away my copy of Lauren Dane’s Undercover as soon as it arrives from B&N online (official release date isn’t until December). It may come today, so check tomorrow for contesty goodness.

Mmmkay… what else do I have for you while my brain is waaaaaay sunk into my new world…. This is the part where I walk around in a daze and my husband has to ask me three times to get me to answer his questions.

Check out this awesome post on Publisher’s Weekly written by the wonderful Barbara Vey. Yes, okay, more preaching to the choir. But, hey, what’s better than an excuse to buy a new book?

and…

I’ll be guest blogging over on Jennifer’s Random Musings tomorrow (Friday). Check it out, ‘cuz I’ll be giving away a book.

Buy a BOOK this weekend! G’wan…you know you want to.

In case you haven’t heard, the publishing industry is suffering, people. Ouchies, just like the rest of the economy. October was big, big ouchies for bookstores in particular.

You like to read, yes? I know I do. If you like to read and are as horribly addicted as I am, you may want to do something to keep the publishing industry going. Maybe? Yes?

Yes?

YAY! Well, the solution is fun and rewarding! Buy a book this weekend. Make a point of doing it. It can be at a chain bookstore or online. It could be for yourself, for a family or for a friend. Start your Christmas shopping! Buy a present for someone on your list. G’wan…all the cool kids are doing it.

I already put in an order today online. Want to know what I bought?

Undercover, by Lauren Dane — I’m doing a contest for this one as soon as it arrives, so STAY TUNED. I’ll have it in a few days.

Broken Wing, by Judith James (that one is for me.)

Dr. Suess’s ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book
— Just who that one is for? (Nope, not me! Good guess, though!)

Aren’t you jealous?

This weekend I plan to go to B&N and get the last book on my current wish list — RED, by Jordan Summers.

Sven Check In

Seventy Days of Sweat started on Monday. My per day word count goal is a modest 1,500. I’ve met that plus some every day since Sven started. Right now I’m sitting in the coffee shop getting a jump start on today’s words.

Here’s my current progress in word meter format. This is for Wicked Enchantment, first book in what I hope will be a new series for Berkley Sensation.
