BEING BULLET PROOF SUCKS—LITERALLY

Once, Maya Black was a kick-ass cop patrolling the streets of L.A. She still keeps the city safe, but nowadays her bad guys of choice include demons, werewolves, and assorted nocturnal scum. Something Maya knows a thing or two about. She’s a vampire—and not thrilled about it. Payback meet bitch.

Adam Brody hopes Maya is as dangerous as they say she is. He needs her to help rescue his niece Cammie from a ruthless band of vamps, and he’s willing to pay—in blood. Trusting her is another matter. Adam has never met a vampire who doesn’t lie. Then again, he’s never met anyone like Maya, who fills him with a desperate need that ignites into explosive, no-holds-barred encounters…

Author bio: Award-winning author Cynthia Eden writes tales of paranormal romance and romantic suspense. Her publishers include Kensington Brava, Grand Central, Avon Red, Red Sage, and ImaJinn Books. Cynthia loves reading romance books, watching scary movies, and making up stories for a living.

Interview Questions:

1.) How did you get started in writing and how long have you been doing it? I’ve always wanted to write (I know—most writers say that, right?) I wrote my first book when I was 18—and I won’t even say how many years ago that was! I sold to ImaJinn Books, a small paranormal press in 2004, and I’ve been writing pretty much constantly since then.

2.) What genres/subgenres are your favorites to write within and do you have any aspirations to write outside your current genres/subgenres. Try something new? I absolutely love writing paranormal romance. Love it—and I hope I’ll always be able to write my stories about monsters and magic. But, as I was writing my paranormal tales for Kensington Brava, I realized something—I had just as much fun writing about the suspense elements as I did the supernatural plotlines. So, yes, I’m going to write outside my current genre.  I’ve recently been offered a contract to write straight romantic suspenses (no monsters!) for Grand Central Publishing. My plan is to write both my paranormals and my romantic suspense stories—I just hope readers like them!

3.) What are you working on now and what releases do you have coming up? IMMORTAL DANGER, my latest paranormal romance (with a strong focus on vampires) releases on 3/31/09. I’ll have another paranormal release on June 30th—MIDNIGHT’S MASTER, the last book in my Midnight trilogy will be published by Kensington Brava I’m currently working on the second book in my romantic suspense series. This series is about the SSD—the Serial Services Division in the FBI. My agents track and apprehend serials (rapists, killers, arsonists). This particular story is very gritty and dark and I am having a great time with the characters.

4.) Anything else you’d like to share? I appreciate you taking the time to interview me, Anya! Thanks! And thank you to all of the readers who have written to me about my stories! I always love to hear from people who have read my books. Thank you!

Readers, here is the contest part. Answer this question in the comments to be entered in a drawing for a copy of IMMORTAL DANGER. Check back to tomorrow for the announcement of the winner. The winner will have until May 5th (that’s the last day of the contest) to contact me in order to collect the prize. This contest IS open to non-US entrants.

You have to leave this planet/reality. What world/alternate reality from a book/TV series/movie do you choose to relocate in and why?:

Cynthia says: Hmmm…tough question. Okay, I choose to relocate to a “galaxy far, far away.” Why? Two words: Han Solo. I will fly on the Millennium Falcon with that man any day. Or night.

Okay, blog readers, now you tell us where YOU would relocate.

  1. I would relocate to a sci-regency planet, i think. Mixing future and regency elements is fun. I only know one author in this “genre”, but i think it’s a setting i would love to try.

If i had to choose another i choose a simple regency setting. 🙂

  2. Wow, tough one…

Okay, after deliberating, I’ve decided I would like to go to Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark world because I want to party with the Valkyries and witches while drooling over hunky demons and weres (and Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs, of course). Then when the s@!$ hits the fan, I can kick ass with some hella-awesome warriors!

    😈

  3. Kenyon’s Dark Hunter world hands down!!! Ash, Simi and Stryker…OH MY!!! I want to rag on Artemis with Simi, hang with Tabitha in New Orleans and maybe get into a little bit of trouble at Santurary. Oh that would be the life!! 😀

  4. I would have to chose the movie, “Last of the Dog Men”. Have a great day. Happy Holiday’s.

  5. I would definitely have to choose Kenyon’s Dark Hunter world – I love those men!!! And if not that one then I would have to choose my other all-time favorite – Christine Feehan’s shapeshifter world – love those jaguars!!!

  6. I would choose to live in JD Robb’s world. I love the In Death series. Why would I? One word…..Roarke.

  7. I would love to be a guest at the Woo Woo Inn in Nina Bangs The MacKenzie Vampire series. I would love to meet Sparkle and Ganymede plus all the exciting and unique guests that come to the inn. Getting to know some of the powerful and handsome vampires, the sexy and protective, and also some unusual, shapeshifters plus witches, harpies and other travelers. What an exciting and thrilling time that would be.

  8. Too many choices. I love the books by Cynthia Eden, by the way.
Johanna Lindsay’s or Jayne Ann Krentz’s futuristic books, both are absolutely great.

  9. I would love to travel in space with the Robinson family

  10. Good Morning Anya!

Great interview with Cynthia Eden and what a wonderful prize!

In answer to your question I would definitely want to leave and enter Larissa Ione’s “Demonica World”. Why? I find the world she has created facinating. And the demons, especially Eidolon are majorly hot!! lol

    Best Regards
    L

  11. Hi Mel K. Thanks for sending me here!

I so have to agree with Lisa. I love the In Death series and would love to live in that world. Of course, I would love to spend my life with Roarke but I don’t think Dallas would go along with that! lol
    Carol M

  12. I would love to be in the Anita Blake world or the JD Robb world would be great!!

  13. Newford, Charles de Lint’s magical (and fictional) Canadian city. Second choice would be hanging out with Harry Dresden. Third choice would be the Dark Hunters.

  14. I’m currently reading Blue Diablo by Ann Aguirre so I’d relocate to the location of Corine Solomon. Nice having you here today Cynthia I enjoy your reads!

  15. I came up with too many so I will go with my first thought….I would love to be on the Enterprise with Jean Luc Picard and the crew.

  16. This is a toughy, because there are so many great places authors put their characters in. I’d have to chose either Atlanta where Kate lives in Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews…or Nocturne City in Second Skin by Caitlin Kittredge.

  17. Wow, great question! lol!

There are too many great settings for me to pick just one! =P I would relocate to a place where witches, weres, etc. were the norm and where women (and men) were valued and considered sexy for what was INside rather than how they looked on the outside!

  18. I would have to say that I would relocate to Hogwarts. I’m too old to attend, but I just love the whismical world that J.K. Rowling created.

  19. I’d love to relocate to Jayne Castle’s planet of Harmony, it sounds like a very cool place..with some very sexy men!

  20. I would love to be in Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling world, with all the sexy shifters and I’d love to live in the forrest!

  21. My choice would be Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander world – all those sexy Scottish alphas! and the interaction of the Fae and human worlds is just great! Tamsyn

  22. I would have to choose the Anita Blake world. I love a tortured hero, and there are many to choose from among the vamps and weres.

  23. Wow I had a bit of a tough time with this one. But I narrowed it down to three.

    1. Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander world. I’d love to go to Scotland, plus all the yummy highlanders are there 🙂
    2. Karen Marie Moning’s Fever world. Fae. Sidhe-seers. ‘Nuff said.
    3. Traveling in space with The Jetsons. That would be awesome!

  24. I would love to be like SG1 on STARGATE… so many worlds to check out… from very advanced techno worlds to old fashioned techless worlds… what is beyond the stars!?! 😀

  25. You have to leave this planet/reality. What world/alternate reality from a book/TV series/movie do you choose to relocate in and why?

I would go to Hogwarts because the Harry Potter books rock!

  26. Great interview! Off planet would be to Dara Joy’s Aviara and hang with the Familiars!! Alternate reality would be to Angela Knight’s Avalon in the Megaverse, my, oh, my 😉

  27. I would travel to Middle-earth from the Lord of the Rings and help Aragorn and Legolas battle the Orcs.

  28. I would want to go to the world of JD Robb’s In Death books.

  29. I agree with Lisa F…I would relocate to Eve Dallas’ world. Nora Roberts presents a reality that I think is great!

  30. My pick would be either to join the Psy, Changeling in Nalini Singh books or to be on the Serenity in Firefly.

  31. How to answer this question…I think I would want to go someplace where magic existed. Not only existed, but was known as well. Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling world would be interesting; so would Ilona Andrew’s Kate Daniels world.

I don’t know if there’s one world/realm I would like to relocate to. I’d be willing to give anything a try.

  32. I am heading to Anne Bishop’s Ephemera Reality. Specifically, the Den 😉

  33. Wow that one is hard. I would have to say Dark Hunters World becasue those men are HOT HOT!! Yumm

  34. I would have to say Ilona Andrews’ Magic because who wouldn’t want to live in a world where everything was run by Magic and one bad flare can let out some really bad “things’. There would never be a dull moment. Also, I mean it has the Beastlord. He’s just too sexxy.

  35. I would love to transport to the reality/world in which Dr. Who lives in… move over Rose Tyler the Dr. has a new companion (okay I would also make myself some kick ass superheroine too – a girl can dream can’t she)

  36. I want to live in The Hollows, from Kim Harrison’s books. 🙂

  37. Can I be a werewolf in Keri Arthur’s Riley Jensen series? I want to go to the clubs and hey, who can beat living in Australia?

  38. Whatever planet that Max from the tv series Roswell is from. I loved that show and he is just so so so…hot! (I can’t remember the name of the planet right now because of a bad case of Mommy Brain! LOL)

Hey, maybe Max can heal me? Grrr…

  39. I’m such a trekkie, I would have to be a crew member of the Enterprise with Jean Luc.

  40. Leave this world/galaxy?! Oh noes! Heh. I like my creature comfort and … I guess what I’m used to.
However, I’d be happy to go to another world – with stipulations :X. I’d love to live in Regency England, or be part of Lisa Kleypas’s Wallflower world – as long as I’m rich. Or say, Kresley Cole’s IAD – if I’m a Valkyrie. Or even stepping out of my “comfort zone” into Lauren Dane’s world she created in Undercover and Relentless – but … wait no, not that one 😛 I can’t stand being baby sat, and I’d only want to be there if I was part of one of The Families. 😛 (Haha, I’m picky, aren’t I? Easiest just to keep me in my own world ;))

  41. Great question!

I would pick JR Robb’s world. You get paid to be a stay at home mom, I love that concept. Not to mention, can i pick to be married to Roarke? of course then i would not really need to get paid to be a SaHM.

Or on Celta (Robin Owens Mate series world), that would be cool too.

  42. I’d go to Stargate so easy to travel around and explore, jumping through those portals, and I’d get to meet Daniel!

  43. Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter world… though a few dozen others come to mind. That one just happens to be first. Hmm… L.A. Kelly’s Tahn books… Oh yes, this is a fun question. 😎

  44. humm any alternate reality id have to say its a toss up between the tv show charmed and true blood the books and the series i love the idea of magic and vampires and all of that id even settle for angel as long as i got to be on the good guys side the whole other world is opened up in tv

  45. LOL at Cynthia’s answer–Han Solo and the MF are pretty compelling enticements 🙂 But he seems pretty stuck on that Leia, so I’m with Amy Kathryn–Jean Luc Picard and his Enterprise. (I wouldn’t mind Spock and that gang either, but I’m not so sure about Captain Kirk!)

  46. I would choose JD Robbs world. Rourk would be the reason.

  47. I’d relocate to Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series. I think that’s about the time my ancestors left Scotland, and I’d like to know more about them. The time-travelling part would be pretty amazing too.

  48. I’d relocate to the world of Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next books. Not only is the book series simply awesome–but you can take vacations inside REAL classics like Pride and Prejudice, A Christmas Carol and whatever.

  49. You have to leave this planet/reality. What world/alternate reality from a book/TV series/movie do you choose to relocate in and why?

There are just so many choices! How about Joanna Wylde’s Saurellioan worlds. The guys are hot and I love the whole destined mates. Or maybe Jory Strong’s Fallon Mates. Same reasoning but add in menages!

  50. The alternate reality I’d choose is the Tri-Cities in Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series. I ‘d love to meet and know all the pack members and Mercy of course. And I would love to get to know Samuel and help him get over Mercy. 😀

  51. I would definitely want to relocate to Sherrilyn Kenyon’s world of the Dark Hunters. Those guys are HOT! 😈

    Blessings,
    Rhonda 😎

  52. Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh….I know this!!
I’d choose JD Robb’s futuristic world…….there are a bunch that tempt me (Cascadia wolves, Demons) but what clinches it is the body sculpting, lol. That world just sounds like the world for me!! I can be tall and thin with a few body adjustments………and live to be 120!! YEAH!!!

  53. OK am I the only goofy one who think it’d be a hoot to travel with the Jetsons 🙂

  54. Very tough question! I think I’ll go with Robin D. Owens’ Celta, as long as I could have some sort of strong Flair (magical talent) and a Fam (animal companion you can communicate with.) I love her “Heart” series set on Celta.

  55. The child in me want to go to Narnia to hang out with the Pevensie siblings and to meet Prince Caspian and Aslan. I love animals and it’s the perfect fantasy world for me.

  56. What a great post!

This is a rather hard one for me because I like all genres in romance – tough paranormal is one of my favs.

I would say somewhere where parallel worlds and time travel are possible. Also, somewere mythical/mystical – faes, fairies, weres, vamps, unicorns, etc. roamed. Legend a 1980ish movie (one of Tom Cruise’s 1sts) and Neverending Story came to mind as they were childhood favs (ofcourse would have the weres etc I mentioned earlier – more adult based).

    Pam S

  57. This is a great question! I think I’d choose to be a professor at Hogwarts if possible. There are a lot of awesome fictional worlds, but I think I’d prefer to be somewhere with lots of libraries and preferably indoor plumbing.

  58. Tough question. I would relocate to the ‘Sookie Stackhouse’ reality with shape shifters and outed vampires. Plus, in the TV series, ‘True Blood’, Jason Stackhouse is gorgeous. Who cares if he turns into a were-panther in the book series.

  59. I wouldn’t mind being in the Bewitched series or the old tv show “Out of This World” with Evie. I loved that show.

  60. I would want to Pern. A land with dragons and the like would be so kewl. I want to be a Dragon Rider myself. Oh ya.

That or can I live in a world where the Fae are real and living large, a world where being who I am is good enough for someone.

  61. I’d love to go to Judy Mays aliens world. any of them would be fine.

  62. I like this question. I would live in the Tri Cities in Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson. Why? I world with hot male werewolves and vampires. Definitely count me in.

  63. Hi Cynthia,

Romantic Suspense sounds like a good new genre for you. I know I enjoy reading the romantic suspense you have in you Midnight series.
To the question,I’d love to live in Michele Bardsley’s Broken Heart. A city full of hot paranormals 😀

    Hugs, Danette

  64. There are a lot of good answers already, but I’m torn between Larissa Ione’s Demonica world and Kara Griffin’s world in Cosmic Chemistry, especially planet Appaloosa.

  65. I wish I had a blog! But I feel like it would be cheating to create one just for this, so… I told my roommates and fiance about the contest!
