Book of the Day: Daring Time, by Beth Kery

daringtime

He sees her, wants her, needs her…

Chicago Detective Ryan Daire has many secrets: a love for Shakespeare, an appreciation for the all the finer things in life, and an absolute lack of restraint in the bedroom. Now he has an even bigger secret. In every shifting shadow of the sprawling mansion he’s recently inherited he can see her—tempting, ethereal, and untouchable. Hope Stillwater inhabited that mansion in 1906. Raw desire has formed a conduit between these two passionate souls who are separated by the barrier of time.

Now he has to have her.

Intoxicated by each other’s presence, Ryan and Hope are closer than ever to crossing that inviting boundary between two worlds. But there is one grave danger: Ryan’s job has put him on the trail of a depraved criminal in an investigation that’s risking Hope’s eternal fate and happiness. Now he must do whatever it takes to change history, protect Hope from harm, and set his own desires free.

Author Bio: Beth Kery grew up in a huge house built in the nineteenth century where she cultivated her love of mystery and the paranormal. When she wasn’t hunting for secret passageways and ghosts with her friends, she was gobbling up fantasy and romance novels along with any other books she could get her hands on. Currently she juggles the demands of her career, her love of the city and the arts and a busy family life. Her writing today reflects her passion for all of the above. Beth writes for Berkley, Ellora’s Cave, Samhain and Whiskey Creek Press.

Interview Questions:

1.) How did you get started in writing and how long have you been doing it? I was first published with Ellora’s Cave in January of 2007. Before publication, I wrote for about two years.

2.) What genres/subgenres are your favorites to write within and do you have any aspirations to write outside your current genres/subgenres. Try something new? I’m in an erotic contemporary phase at the moment, but I also love paranormal and historical. Daring Time, which is a time travel, was ideal for me, because it contains elements of a contemporary, paranormal and historical. I’d like to try a romantic suspense. Several of my books already contain suspense elements, but I’ve never done a pure romantic suspense.

3.) What are you working on now and what releases do you have coming up? I just finished up an erotic contemporary for Berkley Heat called Release, which will come out in February of 2010. As far as upcoming releases, I have a paranormal coming out at Ellora’s Cave on 4/29/9 called Through Her Eyes, Daring Time on 5/5/9, an erotic contemporary from Berkley entitled Sweet Restraint on 7/7/9, and another erotic contemporary called Paradise Rules on 10/6/9.

4.)Anything else you’d like to share? Not that I can think of, Anya. Thank you for having me, and hello to all of your readers.

Readers, here is the contest part. Answer this question in the comments to be entered in a drawing for a copy of DARING TIME. Check back to tomorrow for the announcement of the winner. The winner will have until May 5th (that’s the last day of the contest) to contact me in order to collect the prize. This contest IS open to non-US entrants.

You’ve just inherited 20k from a long lost relative. The only stipulation is you must spend it in a frivolous manner–no paying bills, no saving it. What do you do with the windfall?:

Beth says: Oh, fun question. I’d use it to travel in Europe and Egypt. I love to travel, and although I’ve been to various places in Europe several times, I’ve always had a dream about seeing the pyramids. Travel is so expensive at present with the exchange rate, so yeah…thank you long lost relative and hello Sphinx and the Eiffel Tower.

Okay, blog readers, how would YOU spend the money?

And of course we’d need reading material for the flight, so we could hit the bookstore before we left…

  46. 20 grand?? First thing I’d do is expand my book collection. Then I’d pull out a map of the world and throw a dart and go where ever it landed. Hopefully it would land some place nice and sunny, with lots of history.

  47. I would use it to travel…I would love to go places like Scotland and Ireland and then closer spots like New Orleans and Hawaii.

  48. 1. buy new clothes and jewelry
    2. take a vacation to Australia

  49. I would spend the money by one getting a bigger house to store all my books in. two going on a trip around the world seeing EVERYTHING I could, and three well expand that book collection along the way!

  50. I would spend the money by one getting a bigger house to store all my books in. two going on a trip around the world seeing EVERYTHING I could, and three well expand that book collection along the way!

  51. I would spend the money by one getting a bigger house to store all my books in. two going on a trip around the world seeing EVERYTHING I could, and three well expand that book collection along the way!

  52. If I was being selfish and spending it all on me I would travel around the world. I would also by a new wardrobe and a bunch of books on my wishlist. Anything that might be leftover would go to a new car.

  53. I would travel to Australia and Scotland – my two favorite places in the world!! If any left over – definitely Books!!!

  54. I would divide it up this way:

    1. laptop for me and my kids
    2. books for me and my friends
    3. a vacation to disney world!!

  55. First comes Books, then comes Traveling to Ireland, then maybe some playing at an amusement park! 😀

  56. That actually happened to me many years ago! I spent the money on Central air conditioning and books. 😀

  57. I’d travel to Scotland, and France, and Spain,
would love to see all the castles…
And buy books, lots of books…

  58. I’d get a large screen TV, computer and travel a bit.

  59. I would buy a yacht and go on a world cruise.

  60. I would scoop up my kids and spend 3 months traveling through Europe and Ireland. None of us have ever been, and it would be such a kick to explore this part of the world as a family.

  61. travel till I had just enough money to come home on and then quit. I would do Europe, hawaii, australia. I can budget like nobody’s business and for a chance like that I would lol

  62. Hmmm I would do a little traveling, buy books ofcourse :), a new big flat screen tv, and whatever else I could afford after all that lol.

  63. I would buy all the books I want to read, instead of having to pick and choose because of budget restrictions!

  64. dang 20 K to spend frivolously, is buying books frivolous enough lol, that and clothes and jewelry. I am enough of a book hog to spend close to 20K on just books, music and movies. It would drive my mom nuts too lol. And I would take my boyfriend on a cruise.

  65. Travel… Europe first, from there Egypt, Kenya, India, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Costa Rico

  66. Buy an E Reader and every book I have ever sat around and daydreamed about.
Then I would take my family to Disney World.

  67. Wow. That would be so hard to decide! At first, I would want to say the same thing as the last commentor (sara hurt), and go out and buy all the books I’ve been wanting to read but haven’t ahd the money for. And maybe I would spend some (as in, a few thousand minimum!) of the money that way, but I think the rest would go towards my dream trip: a fairly long stay over seas, visiting all my favorite places I’ve been dying to see (Scotland, Ireland, England, Italy, France, and pretty much most of Europe!).

  68. I would book a cruise around Europe and one through Greece. And I’m sure I’d buy LOTS & LOTS of books. 😉

  69. K~~coupla things I’d do.
I’d take my Alaskan cruise, first class, of course, and I’d buy any and every book that I want or have wanted and outfit myself a library w/ a big cusy chair, my puter and desk, and make it my own little book fiefdom!!

  70. I would build a very large library for my too-quickly expanding book collection. And some more books for my brand new library. I’d probably travel some too. But mostly the books. 😀

  71. I would buy a new car, new books, new clothes and get a better apartment.

  72. First, I would use a hundred or so, to play the lottery (different lottery games) to see if I could add to my funds.

Secondly, I would hire a personal trainer to get me in the best shape of my life and then I would go shopping for a whole new wardrobe: clothes, shoes, purses, and accessories.

Then I would take the whole family on a cruise around Europe making stops in Greece, Ireland, Scotland, etc.

Finally, if there is still enough funds left over, I’ll take the whole family on a cruise around Africa and the Carribbean Islands.

  73. I would take myself and many others on a cruise around the world

  74. buy my son the car he really wants instead of what we can afford

  75. Easy…shopping and travel!

  76. I have two possibilities. Either go crazy at the quilt shop and buy a long arm machine. Or go crazy on amazon dot com and buy some really awesome books

  77. Buy the biggest boat 20K will purchase and FISH every day.

  78. I would go on a trip to Egypt (have always wanted to go there) and then with the rest of the money I would buy a house.

  79. I want a new kitchen with a new laptop to store my recipes on and of course my ebooks.

  80. Well, I’d definitely use a good chunk of it planning some extremely fun traveling through Europe. I’d use the rest to lavish gifts and outings on my nieces and nephews so they could all do everything they want to for their birthdays instead of picking one or two things.

  81. Travel around, maybe sail around on a yacht from place to place.

  82. since I love everything electronic I would have to take it and go nuts with electronics. anything and everything.

  83. I’d get a makeover. And some books. And some stuff for the kids.

  84. a new mansion is a must, a new car and a nice vacationfor th e whole family and a family reunion

hot cover beth, rT looks so much fun glad u are back

  85. Definitely some pampering away from home – even if it’s not far away from home – staying in nice hotel for a stretch, with delicious food and spa sessions….. sigh!

  86. I would travel, buy more books and hire an interior designer to make some more space to my books in our apartment.

  87. That would be extremely easy, I’d spend money on my sons (game consoles and games for them), books, anime, manga, stuff we need for this place, and toys for our dachund pup Warlock (and the female we have coming)
