Book-of-the-Day: Reading Between the Lines

*****THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED******

Every day from today until January 4th, 2010, I’ll be giving away one of Lauren Dane’s fabulous novels. In turn, she will be giving one of mine away. Head on over to her blog to see which one.

By random drawing, the winner of yesterday’s book-of-the-day contest for RELENTLESS is Tracy D., who said, “Yes, we have 2 traditions. One, is that the first meal of the new year must be black eyed peas. It supposed to prevent you from getting lice! Two – a male must be the first person to cross your threshhold in the new year. I think you’re supposed to have good luck for the year.

Congratulations! You have a week from today to contact me and collect your prize. anyabast (at) gmail.com

READING BETWEEN THE LINES: Celtic language expert Haley O’Brien is thrilled when she gets the chance to translate a scroll written in Ogham, an ancient Celtic text used in magic and divination. While translating the text, she unwittingly frees Conall macCormac’s Fae soul from a millennia-old curse that kept him imprisoned in a human body, lifetime after lifetime.

The end of the curse is just the beginning of the magic for Haley and the ridiculously sexy Conall. He takes her into the world of his people, the Daoine Sidhe, where she begins to learn of her own Fae heritage, carve out a new path for herself, and embrace her new-found power.
But their happiness is marred by Ninane, the jealous Fae who cursed Conall a thousand years ago. She will stop at nothing to have him for her own, including the murder of Haley’s family.

Determined to bring Ninane to justice, Haley must ask Conall to undergo the ultimate test of love—to stand aside and let her fight her own battles

  1. When I was young I always wanted to be a Marine Biologist. And I still love dolphins.

Then, during my college visits, I discovered that you could actually get a degree in art! ;D My parent’s were rather dismayed, but I love my job as a graphic artist!

  2. I seriously wanted to be a vet! Or a least anything to do w/animals. My best friend & I had a plan that we would open our very own office and she would specialize in cats & I would specialize in dogs. Both of us would treat any horses (we were both horse crazy!). Unfortunately, it didn’t come true for me, but she is a vet who works in an animal hospital specializing in cats!

  3. Since kindergarten I wanted to be an ER-nurse and beside I ever wanted to have kids and be a mom. So yep, I reached both of my favorite jobs and I’m very happy with’em.

  4. It was a tie between a nun and an archaeologist…

  5. I wanted to be everything. Singer, writer, actress, doctor, you name it and at one time I probably wanted to be it. So far I am a married, stay at home mommy who writes occasionally (my daughters are 4 and 5). My husband who is in concert production and an audio/video engineer, recorded me singing a song (just for my personal pleasure). I am also a certified surgical technologist (non practicing, lol).
I’m only 30 (that’s still pretty young in my book) so I still have alot of time (god willing) left to do more.
    The sky’s the limit right?

  6. From the time I was about 6, I wanted to be a veterinarian. This lasted into college, and I did go to the University of Florida, which has a vet school. Thanks to a particular professor, to whom I never spoke during the semester – the class had 750 people! – I found my calling. I teach HS special ed math.

While growing up, the last thing I ever wanted to do was… teach!

  7. I wanted to be loved. I wanted children, several and a husband that wanted me above all others. Seriously; I know it sound corny, but I did. My life is not what I envisioned, but it is not bad either.

  8. 😀
I wanted to be an Indian and a vet. Instead I married an Indian and became a mother.
    Zina

  9. I wanted to be a teacher, a veterinarian, a pop star, and an Egyptologist…not necessarily in that order.

  10. Growing up Iwanted to be a singer, lessons for 9 years & still enjoy singing/ doing community theater; a geologist, still LOVE rock hunting/metal detecting and speech pathologist so I could help other people that stutter like I did.

    Mindy:)

  11. I’m an animal lover and I wanted to be a vet. I also thought a stay at home mom and wife was a good thing too. My mom worked and was never home and I knew I didn’t want to be like her. As I got older I realized what was involved in being a vet and settled for being a pet owner. I’ve had a few jobs and owned a few businesses but my fav is wife and mother. Thanks, Sue

  12. When I was little I wanted to be a vet or an animal doctor in the wild.

  59. This is crazy but when I was little I wanted to be a waitress when I grew up. LOL
I just loved serving dinner and talking with a fake Southern accent. ( I’m from Cananda and when we travelled to the South, that is normally when we went to restaurants)
Anyhow, I grew up and ended up in banking. (but I still love to talk with my fake Southern accent hee hee)

  60. That’s an easy one: I wanted to be an air stewardess so bad. Then when we had career day, this lady came to our school and gave us certain rules that applied to certain careers; I was not tall enough and I wore glasses and so could not be my choice; I said OK, I’ll teach school but fond out you needed a lot of schooling and money to pay for it and none was available to me. I leaned towards batgirl for a while, but the costume was a little much and her toys were not as cool as the boys were so that had to go.
