****THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. ****

The winner of yesterday’s book, Dark Enchantment, is Rae, who said, “well I’ve read the first two and have been dying for more story! And the excerpt that we had at the end of Cruel Enchantment was such a cruel, cruel tease . I loved the first ones and am sure this one will be no different.” Congrats! Please drop me an email, Rae! Today’s book……

Mira Hoskins doesn’t know she’s a natural born witch who possesses the rare—and powerful—element of air. She also never expected to find herself tied to a mahogany bed frame, captive to a man who aches to fulfill her every desire and let loose the magick that dwells inside her…

Heat emanates from elemental fire witch Jack McAllister. The Coven, a governing authority of witches, has sent him to protect Mira from a band of warlocks who drain witches of power… and life. Long ago, he saw Mira’s parents murdered by this same dark magick. He’d like to quell his guilt and offer her everything she deserves. But she’s the long-lost cousin of his boss—making seduction off-limits.

With Jack’s strong guidance, Mira is luring forth her inner magick. But his sense of duty is quickly swelling into insatiable hunger. They warned him about the natural attraction between air and fire. Now he risks being consumed by the woman he shouldn’t want—but can’t stay away from …

Answer in the comments for a shot at a copy of Witch Fire. Don’t forget to check back tomorrow to see if you won.

The world seems to be ass deep in alligators these days. Do world events affect your emotional well being, or are you pretty good at separating your personal life from the world at large? If you’re like me and are affected, what do you do to chill out and shake off stuff you can’t do anything about?

  1. World events definitely affect my emotional well being. I’ll sleep to chill but when awake I worry constantly. I know this isn’t good for me but I can’t stop worrying about this or that or this, that, and the other. Sometimes I really believe I’m an empath.

  2. Sometimes it does affect my emotional well being, but most of the time I’m pretty good at separating it. For me its important to separate it because I’m a very emotional person and I wouldnt be able to think about anything else if I couldnt separate the two.

  3. Unfortunately I seem to be affected by everything around me. 🙂 My emotions get involved and to keep myself from drowning in the sadness I always find my way through my reading. It removes me temporarily from my surroundings . A good book is my treasure. 🙂 I also listen to music because it seems to soothe my soul.
I definitely want to read Witch Fire. So please count me in.

  4. No, they don’t affect my emotional well-being. I feel horrible for those directly involved, but I can’t let it take over my life.

I’d love to read Witch Fire. Thanks for entering me.

  5. World events do not tend to effect me very much simply because I for one do not pay attention to the news. Sorry but if it’s I something that is going to effect me I will find out about it whether I watch the news or not. In my free time I prefer to read a book or watch a movie and don’t spend the time getting caught up on world events.

  6. I’m affected by events that I can relate to, like natural disasters, etc. like the catastrophe in Japan. I try to do things as usual. If you are busy, you don’t worry so much! Thanks for the chance to win Witch Fire.

I sort of agree with Tamsyn, for me personally it sort of depends on what the event is; say for example the crisis in Japan.

I feel really bad for for what they’re going through and although I really what to do something to help them out I know that for the moment there’s nothing I can do. So I just do what I can to make it through my day and try and keep Japan in my thoughts and hope that they’re doing better.

I makes me feel a lot better when I find out that people far away from me are doing what they can to help people in another country. It reminds me that what we do can make a difference, even if we think that what we’re doing is a small thing. 🙂

  8. World events do impact me and is a large part of our dining table discussion. I try to emphasize doing our best at things we can control, donating what we can, and hoping that our actions do impact people we don’t know and may never meet.

  9. My household is filled with melancholy people. We always have a debrief to discuss things that are happening in the world and whether we could have done anything to prevent or address the situation. At the end of our conversation, we also list what we are thankful for and how we hope to change someone’s life for the better. I find that this helps my children with being overwhelmed with negative life issues and helps us to focus on the good we can do for the world around us.

  10. World events gets my blood to boiling and my heart breaking, but 99% of the time I’m able to keep world verses my life seperate. If I didn’t, I would be locked in a rubber room  I read, I read a lot of romance and paranormal romance and anything to keep my mind busy when I’m not active throughout the day or evening. There’s so much my brain wants to worry over, so I overload it so I can eventually fall asleep at night. that’s how I stay out of the rubber room 😉

  11. In my house, we have a news channel on 24 hours a day it seems. When I woke up at 5am to the news of the tsunami last week, I literally threw up. Sometimes, I just have to sit down in a quiet room with a good book, where I know that no matter how bad it seems for the characters, they’ll come out on top.

  12. I stay disconnected pretty easily since I don’t have a conventional TV. Sure, I’m online quite a bit, but I don’t browse the news shows. I figure, if I read about it I will get up set. If I get upset I will have to do something.

  13. I don’t watch the news, I only hear about it from other people so I keep it separated from my personal life and feelings. I can’t do anything about it, so why do I need to stress about something that wasn’t my fault and I have no control over.

  14. Sometimes they effect me, especially watching the pictures and upclose footage… To relax and take my mind off all of the negative, I step in between the pages of a book… go along a journey with characters to find their HEA!

  15. I can’t say that world events effect my emotional well-being in the long run, but I do worry when I hear about some of the events in the world at large.

  16. I think the world events effect me somewhat, its hard not to seeing all that’s been going on. I watch the news a lot.I want to stay informed as to what’s going on in the world. But I can separate myself from it at the same time.

  17. The economic problems definitely do affect me and mine. And since I live one mile from the Pacific, the problems in Japan are also affecting life in our household. My oldest daughter is in a plan thoroughly ahead mode since the quake and tsunami.
To get my mind off my problems, I usually pick out a book I love(preferably one with humor in it)and sit and read. If that doesn’t work I’ll play a video game.

  18. i am always affected by world events. usually i am hardest hit when it involves children as i was never able to have any of my own. i usually have to turn off the t.v. and radio and bake some homemade bread and take out my frustrations on the kneading process. ha ha ha ! after about 5 minutes of that i am much more able to deal with things that have hit so hard, for example the tsunamia in Japan.

  19. Sometimes. To keep world events from affecting me I have stayed away from news channels and newspaper. Usually I am the last to hear about things.

  20. I do get upset at tragic world events and if there’s something I can do, I help.

If I’m too far removed from the event then I remind myself how lucky I am to have my health, my family, my home, and a job.

  21. Sometimes I’m affected by it, although I can compartmentalize better than I could in the past.
But for those days where I can’t, reading, baking and cleaning are high on my list of distractions.

  22. It does affect me in certain ways. When tragedy strikes, you feel sad for those involved, but grateful you and your family are safe.

  23. I think it depends on what the event is. Take Japan, for instance…those poor people won’t know the extent of their genealogical problems for a.while….who knows what kinds of illnesses they will end up with…..that kind of stuff bothers me a lot.

  24. Well I don’t have cable so as a general rule I don’t watch the news, but when I do I find it so depressing that people can be so cruel towards one another. Hate crimes especially bother me. I love that we live in such a diverse world so it breaks my heart when people hurt some one just because they are “different ” when differences among the human race should be celebrated not destroyed or contained.

I just realized how perfect what I said ties in with the dark magick series! Maybe that’s why I love it so much!

I love your elemental witches series as well. I’ve read them all and would love to win this copy!!

  25. I don’t watch alot of news because it tends to depress me. I hate hearing about disasters and people being hurt, etc. When I get down, I like to read a book that I know will make me laugh.

  26. I can’t watch the news regularly because it definitely affects my personality. I started reading again after not reading for years in order to separate myself from the negative emotions. You can always get a HEA in a book not always so in real life.

  27. Every time I turn on the TV, listen to the radio or glance at a newspaper, there seems to be some new tragedy to pull at my heart strings. When it all gets to be too much, I escape into a good book.! There’s nothing like entering oblivion while being thoroughly entertained!

  28. I try to keep things seperated because the sad things in the world make me very depressed, and as I already suffer from depression I cant deal with more….I try to read something funny or play a mindless facebook game to make me feel better.

  29. I think for the most part I am able to hold myself apart – I learned long ago to separate myself from emotions and do what I had to do. It’s called the military. When I fail in that though, I hide in my bedroom for an hour or so with a good book, the stereo, my dog and a cup of hot cocoa. Then I am ready to face the world again.

  30. We get very upset and we listen daily to the news, also listen on the radio. It’s some days depressing to listen to but we must keep up in this world.

  31. Normally I am able to separate things, it enables me to do whatever it is I have to do. It also lets me deal with whatever Has caused me to do that. If I can’t I hide in my room for an hour or two, with a good book, my dog, and a cup of hot cocoa. Put some tunes on too and everything’s perfect!

  32. World events do have an impact on how I feel but I do compartmentalize and try to focus on what I can control.

  33. For me, it’s about half and half. But to shake off the world events and chill out, I read. When I’m in a fictional world, everything is okay (well, maybe not okay all the time, but there is going to be a happy ending).

  34. It is hard to escape it, especially when it’s being covered on every news channel. I hug and kiss my boys and explain to them what’s happening, but I try to keep them away from it as much as I can. They are too young to be exposed to it over and over. We say a prayer for the families and try to steer away from the news. I also lose myself in my writing. It allows me to travel into my own world for a moment.

  35. It used to affect me but nowadays not much realy fazes me theres always something going on.I rarely even watch the news anymore theres never realy any good news on so why depress myself.

  36. It’s about half and half for me – half being able to separate world events from emotional well being and half not. Sometimes, it can depend on the day (or even time of day  )

When a chill out is needed, then the news gets turned off, the CD player on and either a new book or a comfort re-read.

  37. I tend to dwell upon world events. They affect everyone even if some people don’t think so. I can imagine the pain, suffering & agonies.

  38. I tend to avoid watching the news. But you can’t avoid it all the time. I try not to let it affect me too much but just like the news you cannot be completely unaffected. I count my blessings as to how lucky I am to have the life I do.

  39. I just worry all the time… One day at a time!

  40. I used to watch the news everyday but now I only watch a couple times a week. The stuff that is going on in the world makes your blood boil, brings you sadness and makes you cry. So I read and spend time with my loved ones. But I have got better at seperating myself with a lot of the news if not it would drive you crazy.

  41. World events don’t really effect me much since I don’t watch the news for the most part. Typically I don’t even know what’s going on in the world unless it pertains to books or video games.
When things do effect me, I tend to take a deep breath and muddle through it the best I can. Usually I go to the movies, hang out with friends, or just sit at home with a good book and a glass of wine.
