Book of the Day: Jeweled

Today’s book……

Defined by magic. Ruled by desire.

In the Court of Edaeii, magic-imbued Evangeline is rewarded for her gift in manipulating emotion with a sapphire stone set into the perfect curve of her lower back. Her greatest rival in the royal court is the enigmatic Anatol, instilled with the power of illusion. He may better her in magic, but he is her absolute equal in passion.

They share something else—they’re both targets of low-born revolutionaries bent on overthrowing the palace of the privileged few. Rescued from the mobs by Gregorio, the brilliant revolutionary mastermind, they’re given sanctuary. But in this warm refuge, Evangeline soon finds herself torn between the magic of one man she has always desired, and the excitingly new and radical moves of another. For her, there is only one choice.

Evangeline, Anatol and Gregorio come together as one to explore the possibilities of love beyond reason, and to indulge in pleasure without limits.

Answer in the comments for a shot at a copy of Jeweled. Don’t forget to check back tomorrow to see if you won.

Jeweled is part one of the short, two part, Court of Edaeii series. How do you feel about series and stand alone novels. Do you prefer series, or do you get bored with them after a while?

  1. i like them both. i like a series and don’t get bored as long as the author keeps the storylines in each book fresh and the charactes engageing.

  2. 😀 I prefer series because it allows for a continuation with the characters. However, I like stand alone books as well.

  3. I love series and stand alone books. I like to see how characters grow over a series of books. I like to see secondary characters get their own books later on in the series. I enjoy stand alone books also.

  4. I love series and stand alone books. In series, I like how you get stories about secondary characters.

  5. I like them both but my favored is series because you can see what happens to the new secondary characters and what going on with the first one to.

  6. I like both, series and stand alone books. For me, the only ‘problem’ with reading a series is the wait in between books!

  7. I love series! They are like sitting down with old friends and catching up on what they’ve been doing lately.
    😀

  8. Sometimes I want to prefer series, but mostly I just want to see the end of the book.

  9. I tend to read a lot of series but it didn’t start that way…..I’d get what turned out to be book 1 in any number of series and then be hooked for the rest. This is how my shelves are bursting with books from series by Sherilyn Kenyon, Pamela Palmer, Pamela Clare, JR Ward, Lara Adrian, Christine Feehan and Lora Leigh with multiple series each, Christine Warren, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter (again with the multiples!), Larissa Ione, Maya Banks, Jacquelyn Frank, Nora Roberts/JD Robb, Lori Foster, ANYA BAST and more.

I like far reaching broad story arcs in series, with great stand alone stories making up that series. I like that characters and plot development relally get a chance to play out in a series, and I love getting a peak at the “ever after” of previously spotlighted folks from earlier books.

  10. I like both series and stand alone. I enjoy series, especially when previous characters are mentioned and we are able to see what is happening in their lives since their book.
Stand alone books are a great read that answers your questions and leaves you without questions ( or at least very few)!

  11. I enjoy both series and stand alone; yes, sometimes a series can get long but if the author is doing her job, not usually. And stand alone books have it all wrapped in one book!

  12. I love series and have yet to get bored by one. I think the publishers help with this by spacing the release of the books out at decent intervals.

  13. I like both, but i prefer series.
I love your stand alone novels, they are so good I wish the story would just keep going 🙂
I absolutely love series books because I love to keep reading about the same basic thing, but again its all different bcuz its from another characters point of view, I love how you write series.
Like when the 1st book is about something then u write the 2nd book, and i like how its always from a different characters view but the previous characters are always mentioned, i love hearing about how the previous characters are after the ending of their book. Again with a series I wish they could just keep going and going 🙂

  14. I love both and I don’t ever really get bored with a series unless the plot and characters are going nowhere.

  15. I like series books…it’s like seeing the persons whole life instead of just a part of it…I follow series books usually to the end…as long as the writing stays strong and the author still cares about the characters…it’s all good:)

  16. I like both, but prefer series. It seems most of my must-buy books are part of a series.

  17. I like series, because sometimes you get so involved with characters it is hard to let them go. I think if a series is long running it is hard to keep it fresh and new.

I just love the Jeweled cover and can’t wait to read Jaded.

  18. I really love series. especially the ones that visit the characters from previous books. If I end up loving the book, i REALLY love have more to read of the same universe!

  19. I enjoy seeing characters from a previous book have their journey and HEA… so I guess I love series! 😀

  20. I love both. I love trilogies the best, because you get a good amount of story with the character, but you don’t have to wait 10 years to finish reading the series.
I also love stand alone books as a break from the sea of series that I am reading. Many times with stand alone books I would love more from the characters, but I”m glad I don’t have to wait.

  21. I love series as well as stand alone books. Series offer a chance to watch characters grow & adapt. Adding new characters allows the series to grow. The characters seem like friends and that I’m right there with them 😉 I’m invested in several series currently & I am always anxious to read the next installment of the story. The wait between books is a killer ❗

Sadly, I have read a few series that have lived past their expiration date. When I can predict how the plot will play out, I feel the author has lost interest in letting his /her characters to grow.

I’m currently reading ‘Jeweled’, so my wait for ‘Jaded’ won’t seem so long.

  22. I like both and as long as the author can keep the series going and staying fresh and not the same ole story every time. I’ll keep reading.

  23. I enjoy both a stand alone story and a good book series. Have quite a few series as auto-buys, and always look forward to returning to that world and those characters . As long as a series stays interesting with great characters, and storylines, I will continue to read it.

  24. I like series books and single stories but he best are series books that also can be read as stand alones 😀

  25. I love series!

  26. I love like them both for different reasons. 🙂
I like reading stand-alones if I just want to read a book real quick.
I like reading series because you get back stories, you can really get interested in a character and see them develope. I also love when we meet new characters and we know they’ll have a book in the future. That is always fun.

  27. I enjoy series because I like to reconnect with characters from previous books.

  28. I like both. Sometimes it’s nice to be able to just pick up a book without having to refer to something else.

But I’ll never turn down the chance for more story! So If I had to choose, it would be a series. And as long as the story is good, I certainly never get bored with them.

  29. I love series books because I enjoy seeing characters develop over a number of books. It’s like being a part of the family when reading them. And as long as the quality remains good then I’ll keep reading them until the end.

  30. I love stand alone and series. I especially like series as I get to revisit characters I’ve grown to love.

I like on-going series with the same main characters. Or a family, with the story about the different members with the others popping in and out. There are a number of series I am following.

Other series I don’t mind are when the stories are all pretty seperate with different characters but all in the same setting.

Anyways, with my favourite authors it’s more a matter of….write it and I’ll read it…hehe!!

  31. I love series. I know this isn’t going to sound right but… Whatever lol. I love reading about other characters in the books I read, I want to know their past, present and eventually their futures. The ONLY problem I have with book series is… I can’t stand to wait for the next book! I do it, but I don’t like it! lmao. And that is why my home has a LOT of books, gotta keep reading new things!

  32. In general, I can’t get enough of a series–I like them to go on as long as they can 🙂 Standalones are fine, too, but there’s something about a good series that I find almost irresistible…

  33. Personally, I love series. Especially those that bring back old characters or deal with the same character. After a while it might get old for me so I just read something completely different. Then when a new book or two come out in that series, I reread the whole series before reading the newest book. It’s like returning to old friends but still something new.

  34. I love series books. I love being able to keep up with past characters and see what they are up to.

  35. Lately I been really loving series more than stand alone books.

  36. I love series. Especially series that revisit the characters from early stories.

  37. I love both actually. I enjoy stand alones for fast reads, and enjoy series because it gives the opportunity to keep up to date with previous characters as they are mentioned in the newer books.

  38. I love to read a good series because I love to grow with the characters present in the present and past stories.

  39. I always feel that a series should never be more than 3 books. That way it stays fresh & does not overstay it’s welcome. Stand alone books can have such an immediate impact: no loose ends yet to be unraveled. I read and appreciate both.

  40. I prefer series because there is more development of the characters and setting. I always want to know more about the characters and series allow me to see the characters in different situations.

  41. I like both but with series there is more development of the world and a familiarity with that world that adds to the enjoyment of ths story.

  42. Oh please pick me!!! 🙂

  43. Opppps… my answer LOL

I love series, though some can go on too long. Pern comes to mind. When one can no longer figure out the sequence the series needs to end 😉

  44. Oh crap! I was all excited about Jaded and entered for Jeweled. Don’t pick me. *slaps head* I have read this wonderful book!

  45. I love series because you can go back and revisit your favorite characters. I do however like to break things up so I will usually read a series then about 2 or 3 stand alone books before starting a new series

  46. I love series because once I already know the world and the rules the rest is pure entertainment. As long as the author can keep it fresh and interesting, she has got a reader for life.

  47. I have to say I’m the rabid chick out there against series. If they’re loosely tied, or stand alone, I’m more okay with it. But there are series out there getting ridiculous. After nine books, it’s really time to move on. When you get to cousins, and secret babies that are siblings and… anyway. I have quite the rant about it.
But if it’s a *limited* series – I’m perfectly happy with it, as long as the books are stand alone.

  48. I normally love to read series but sometimes they can become too long. I read both romance and sceince fiction/fantasy genre and there are several authors especially on the sci-fi side that draw things out too much. When you get to book 14 and are still on the same 4 or 5 starting characters, not their kids or grandkids, it might have gone on too long.

  49. I’m always sad when a series ends, because I’ll never know where else the characters’ lives may lead them. If it’s a series I really enjoy, I tend to get a little caught up in their world. 🙂 Single books can sometimes be great reads, but the endings are almost always rushed on too fast, like trying too hard to tie up all the loose ends in the story actually takes some of the joy out of the telling of it.

  50. I love both. I don’t get bored as long as it 3 or 4 book series.
