Book of the Day: Night Falls Darkly

Winner of yesterday’s book is Cathy M., who said, “I just finished reading Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh and absolutely loved it. I’ve got my daughter in law hooked on this series and she has the pleasure of reading it next.”

Today’s book….

Death is inevitable.

But there are some souls, more wicked and disobedient than most, who defy Death’s claim.

Rebellious souls who must be called to heel.

ARCHER, Lord Black, returns to England at the behest of Queen Victoria to immerse himself in the dark, hellish streets of London’s East End. Among the immortal Shadow Guard, he is the most prolific and cunning of the Reclaimers. He revels in the hunt of his current prey: an ill-mannered, reluctant soul reviled in the daily newspapers as Jack the Ripper. Archer has only one weakness … one distraction … the young woman he spared from death two years before.

ELENA WHITNEY has never wanted for anything — not since coming under the protection of her mysterious and absent guardian, Lord Black, who has gifted her with everything a young woman of quality could ever hope for, including an enviable address, an unlimited income and entrée into the drawing rooms of high society. But now, after nearly two years of indifference, he believes he can sweep into her life and rid himself of her by marrying her off. If he knew anything about her — anything at all — he’d know she had greater aspirations than that.

Answer in the comments for a shot at a copy of Night Falls Darkly. Don’t forget to check back tomorrow to see if you won.

I’m headed off to Lori Foster’s Get Together in Cincinnati today. Do you ever attend writer/readers cons? If so, which ones? If not, ever want to go to one?

  2. I have been to two of Gena Showalters book signings…love her….but no cons or writer/reader conference. I would love to go but it just hasn’t worked out yet. Thanks for the contest and have a great weekend.

  3. I have never attened a con but would love to. To be face to face with some favorite authors and to chat with fellow book lovers; oh, the whole event sounds so exciting.

I must add this to my bucket list!

  4. I have not had the pleasure of attending a writer/reader con but would love to in the future. What one I will attend will have to depend on where it is located, how much it cost, and if I have enough money saved up at the time.

  5. Have yet to attend one, not from lack of wanting, just don’t live anywhere near places that have had them. However, I have attended a childrens author reading with my kids if that counts. (smile)

  6. Last year I attended Lora Leigh’s RAW in West Virginia. I had so much fun. I met so many new readers and writers, it was Fabulous!

  7. I have never been to a conference or a signing. Would love to attend one some day. 😀

  8. Hi

I have never attended one but would love to go to one someday. It would be so fun to meet authors of books that I love to read.

    Thanks for the contest.

  9. I have not yet attended a con yet…would love to…all my fav authors in one place I would sooo be happy…and from pics they share look like great fun too!!! for now until I can get there I will continue to stalk thru author websites & facebook…

  10. Kim Lenox is a new to me author. Thanks!

I have never been to a con of any sort. If one was within 20 miles and not too expensive (not only the admission, but parking, etc.) I’d go for the experience.

  11. I have never been to one, but would love to go to one and met author I so enjoy and met new ones. I have three grandkids I’m fixing to be taking care of, so it most likely wont happen but they sound exciting.

  12. Ugh!!! I haven’t gone to any and I want to go so badly!
To make matters even more cruel, I live about 25-30 minutes away from Lori Foster’s get together. I swear that I’m going to get there next year, no matter what.

  13. I want to go to one SO BAD. but they never have any around me, and I can’t afford to fly out to one 😥 I would give just about ANYTHING to go! even my first born! you want him? 😆

  14. Wow! I am a big cover fan and Night Falls Darkly has such a gorgeous cover!

I have not attended any cons as of yet but would love to. Never really had anyone to go with and would be too intimidated to go by myself. Recently a friend expressed interest in going to one. Hopefully we will be able to attend one in the near future. They sound like so much fun.

  15. I have never been to any of the cons yet but would love to. It has always been a problem that I can’t afford to take off from work and go. My vacation time is spent with me 8yr old and she isn’t old enough to enjoy a book con yet. Give me a couple of years and both of us will probably be showing up since she loves reading herself.

  16. I’ve never been to one but they sound really fun. Maybe someday….

  17. Haven’t had the pleasure of attending one yet, but I have high hopes! One of these days!!! Then there will be much squealing 😉

  18. I would love to go to cons any really. I hit the KY Book Fair every year and get to see many great authors

    Robin

  19. Quite frankly, I wasn’t even aware of writer/reader cons until recently – I know .. what rock have I been hiding under??? So, no, I have never been. I think I would enjoy attending one for the opportunity to meet some really great authors and make new reader friends. I’d probably be so nervous, I wouldn’t know what to say!! Location and cost are pretty big factors for me, as well.

Thanks for the chance to win – great contest!!

  20. I’ve never been to any reader cons but would love to go to one someday like the RT Convention or AAD.

  21. I’ve never been to a writer/reader con, but I would absolutely love to go to one. Just thinking about meeting all my favorite authors makes me really happy. It would be really nice to be around people who actually get my love of reading.

  22. I’ve never been to one although I would love to go and meet all my favorite authors. The problem is I would have to come up with the money to travel to where ever it was hosted and the hotel room, etc. Any extra money I have right now usually just goes to buying books.

  23. I never attend author/ writers cons since I’m not live at USA, but someday I will! I would love to meet new people and esp my favorite authors

  24. Have attended local booksignings, but not any cons. I would like to at some point.

  25. Nice cover!

As for your question? No I’ve never been to writer’s/readers con before but I would absolutely love to go to one someday!

    I’d love to be able to meet some of my favorite authors in person and maybe pick their brains about what they write and how they do it! I personally think that that’s one of things a potential writer should learn;

How to ask questions from other writers and maybe get answers and opinions from someone who’s been in the field for awhile.

I hope that made sense! 😉

  26. I have never been to one.
Where I live there rarely ever is a writer signing, but if there ever is one i would love to go.

  27. i have never been to a con but i would love to go. id love to meet all my favorite authors and meet people who love books just as much as i do. 😀

  28. I have never gone to one, but they sound like so much fun… one day I will treat myself!

  29. I’ve never been to a con but would love to go.

  30. I have never attended one, i live in a very rural area and not close to a big town that holds such things..with the cost of gas could not afford it as on a fixed income…Kimy

  31. i have not been to one yet but i am hoping to go in August to RomCon.

  32. I’ve never been lucky enough to go to a convention. I’m really hoping I can swing going to the Romantic Times convention in Chicago:-) Fingers crossed.

  33. Never attended one, but would like to sometime. I have been able to catch some authors at bookstore signings where they read portions of the books and I enjoyed that. So I am sure going to a writers convention would be a lot of fun as one would meet a lot more of our favorite writers/authors and get to discuss the books.

  34. I have never attended one, but I would love to in the future.

  35. I have been to a few signing and have loved the experience! I would really like to go to RWC someday, I know many of my favorite authors would be there. I have gone to a Sci-Fi convention and if writers conventions are anything like that it would be a blast!

  36. I have never attended a conference, but I would love to.

  37. I’ve only attended one convention and that was the RT convention in LA this past April. I had a blast! I met many of my favorite authors and shared meals with them too. I helped Megan Hart and Lauren Dane set up the reader party they threw with Ann Aguirre, Sylvia Day and HelenKay Dimon. It was a great week of workshops and parties. I came home with 58 books.

  38. I have never been to a conference or a signing, because they’re never in Ga, but Would love to attend one some day

  39. I have never been to a author/reader conference but would love to go. I’m hoping to attend next years RT conference in Chicago because I could drive to it but it will depend on my budget.

  40. I’ve never been to one but would love to one day. Have to work it out so hubs can give it to me a a present of some sort 🙂

  41. I haven’t even been to any, but I would love too. I think, if I spoke with my sister, we would be able to plan for a trip. I think it would be great meeting the writers of my favorite books!

  42. I haven’t been but I really want to go! I’ve been dying to attend a few release parties but I can’t seem to make those either 🙁

  43. I’ve never been to a con before but I will be attending Authors After Dark later on this year and I am really excited.

  44. I was an RT virgin this year…lol. we had such a good time we are planning to go again next year.

    Gigi

  45. I’ve never been to one, but would love to go some day. Between a lack of funds and me being a quadriplegic, which makes travel an extra big production, it just never works out. I’d be thrilled to go to any of the gatherings you ladies talk about.

  46. I went to AAD last year for one day. Had such a good time, I signed up for the whole weekend this year. And it’s closer to where I live this year. Not sure if I’ll be able to go next year since it’s in New Orleans.

  47. never been but would love to go! they are never close to where I live . . .

  48. I’ve never been but wold love to attend when retired and if we ever have some in Canada!

  49. I would love to go to one, but I’ve never been able to because of time/money issues.

  50. I’ve always wanted too go to one. I’d love to meet authors in real life and get to chat with them. Would love some pointers on how to get started and any other advice they’d be willing to give.

  51. I have never been to a reader/writer con but I want to. The reader/writer con I really, really want to attend is the RT Convention.

  52. I’ve heard about this author, but haven’t tried anything by her yet. I’m curious.

As for conferences, I’ve been to ones, but not reader/author ones.

  53. I’ve never had a chance to go to one, but I would love it! I really wanted to go to RWA this year, at least for the huge day of author signings. i live in NPA, and I’m only about 2 hours from NYC, so it woud have been very easy to go in for the day, but it’s during the time i will be away on vacation. And I have to admit, when it comes to a choice of a convention or my grandson’s birthday, he wins every time 🙂

  54. I have never attended one but I believe it would be an interesting experience.

  55. I’ve never attended one, but have thought about it. The timing has never worked out for me though.

  56. I have never attended a con. I am hoping that I can go to RAW this year. My fingers are crossed!

  57. I’ve never had a chance to attend, but I would love to go someday. It would be so much fun.

  58. I’ve never attended one. I’d like to check some of them out, though.

  59. I love conventions and if I had unlimited funds and time would attend at least RT and RWA every year. I have been to the Authors After Dark its first year and hope to go again next year,

  60. Oh man!!! If I lived on your side of the pond I’d want to go to ALL of them!!!!

We did have one here in Germany which I visited three times…but it stopped! Boohoo!!

    Valerie
    in Germany

  61. I would love to attend. It would be like ‘Disneyland’ for book lovers. Our Magic Kingdom. I would make a special effort to attend if there were any within reasonable distance.
