Book of the Day: Raven’s Quest

The winner of yesterday’s book is Stephanie T., who said, “You were actually the first romance author I tried so I’m partial to your Elemental Witch series, in particular, Witch Heart. The title was perfect for the feel of the book. Adam was fabulous btw.” Congrats! Please drop me an email! Anyabast (at) gmail.com.

Today’s book….

New York Times bestselling author Anya Bast spins a spellbinding epic fantasy of a man and woman torn between love and war, magic and mystery, passion and revenge…

Once, Gallus Lucan was in line to inherit the Dragon Throne of Numia—until his future was crushed and his family slain by his malevolent uncle Magnus. Now Lucan has only one ambition: overthrow Magnus and take back what is rightfully his.

Branna ta Cattia is the Raven, a high priestess who has come to Numia to defeat its tyrant. It’s a journey made on the strength of her prophetic dreams, visions of ancient rituals, sacred spells, and of a handsome stranger destined to help her—all in the name of stopping Magnus’s oppression. But Branna’s stranger is more than she expected. For Lucan wants victory his own way. To hell with the consequences.

As the magic of one woman’s love and the brute force of one’s man revenge unfold, Lucan and Branna realize their destiny as spirit mates—and their fears that the ultimate cost of winning freedom could be greater than either imagined.

  1. I prefer paperbacks.
There’s nothing quite like the feel & smell of a brand new book.
Although e-books are fab for holidays, where suitcase weight is an issue. ;o)

  2. I like both but the longer I have my Kindle the more I tend to read ebooks instead of the paperbacks on my overflowing TBR shelf. Ebooks tend to be cheaper but I do miss the pretty cover art.

  3. Actually I like both, but I don’t have a Kindle, it’s why mostly ebook I read at my laptop (with ebook reader application such as pdf reader or adobe digital to read epub format), and sometimes it make me uncomfortable while I read. So I prefer paperback, then I love the smell of paper 😀

  4. I love actual books. I have downlaoded books to my ipad but haven’t yet read one. I enjoy the look and feel of real books and love my collection and all the different bookshelves I have.

  5. Wow, that’s a tough answer. I travel a lot, and so I have a ton of books on my Kindle, because it is so much easier to take 10 books rather than to pack 3 then have to go buy 7 more while I’m wherever it is that I’m visiting. And I read a lot of ebooks on my iphone at work. But I still love to read paperback books, and I still haunt used book stores to find out of print things. I have some books that I read over and over again that I have in paperback, and I’ve bought them again as ebooks so that I can take them with me always. Really, I don’t think I could live without either.

  6. I like both. I, usually, get the cheapest option.

  7. Hi

I read both…I have a large stack of paperback books to read (pile) yet I also have loaded books each week to my e-reader – must be an addiction. :ohh:

    Thanks

  8. I like paperback, ebooks are okay but I like the feel of the book. Plus I can show off all my wonderful books that are in my bookcase. I can walk up to the bookcase and look at all the books there and find what i want to read fast and easy, because i reread my books.

  9. i still prefer a paper book to an e-book. i like the feel and smell of a book.

  10. I like both but my main preference is paperbacks. It is easier on my eyes and I love holding the book in my hands as I read.

  11. I want a e-book reader but there is something satisfying about reading a paperback. I guess it’s the whole being able to hold an actual book and smell it. All you smell with a e-book reader is a hot electronic. But in the end I’ll probably switch over to e-books only for the reason of it being better for the trees.

  12. I try to buy ebook for my nook because they take up less space, but some books/authors I always buy the book just because I want that book in hand.

  13. I prefer paperbacks. I do not have a Kindle or any other type of e-book reader. I prefer to hold the book while I am reading. Also, if it is one of my favorite books, I like to be able to go directly to my favorite parts.

  14. I prefer paperbacks – it’s easier to flip to different sections to reread qnd more comfortable to hold. I do own a NOOK which I basically use when I travel.

  15. I prefer paperbacks most of the time for my favorite authors or books with amazing authors and I like ebooks when I’m trying out a new book/series or when I just want to read something I’m not sure will be an amazing read.

  16. I prefer paperback but in all fairness I have not tried an ebook yet. My shelves are bending with paperback weight, so those will get read first. I have an e-reader, but it takes far less room to store 🙂

  17. I have all the above…I love paperbacks. I have a Kindle and have a few books on it that I have read. I am torn…I don’t know if I should start collecting part of a series on the Kindle or finish it out paperback :(.

  18. I prefer paperbacks, but I’m quickly getting used to the idea of e-books.

I’ve been reading paperbacks for as long as I can remember though so I think I’ll always like the feeling of having a “real” book in my hand!

  19. I like both, I love the paperbacks, but i was always paranoid about the cover and spine getting bent and everything.
But now I have a nook and i absolutely love it, i read it all the time, i do miss all the beautiful covers but its easier and im less worried about my books getting ruined…

  20. I do love my Kindle (1st gen) but I also love to hold a book, hardcover or paperback in my hands. I’ll always buy bound books as well as e-books.
Some of my greatest treasures are my signed & personalized books 😀 I’m not giving those up..Ever!

  21. I prefer paperbacks, though I do read e-books. I like the feeling of having a book in my hand. I read e-books, but it is uncomfortable since I read them on my pc.

  22. I like both. Though the ease of the ereader is great, nothing beats a book. I will likely still bring both on vacation. I’d be too worried about my baby when I was in the pool.

  23. Thats are hard question. I still love print books but with just getting a kindle i”ve been going wild with it.

  24. i do have an unnatural affair to my Kindle I have to remember to keep it plugged in…but on most series books such as JR WARD, Pamela Clare, etc I keep paperbacks…I inherited quite alot of bookshelves this year so i have room to expand in paper backs…but i love my kindle…instead of radio text to speech in the car…

  25. I like both. Though I tend to read ebooks more. I have a nook, and I love being able to read what i want, travel anywhere, and have access to all my favorite books. And if i dont have it, its a button away to buy it! 😀

  26. I still grab a print book first when I want something to read, but I have a lovely collection building of e-books to enjoy…

  27. As of yet I still don’t have an e-reader. I know eventually I’ll have to give in and buy one but I just prefer book. That way I don’t have to worry about damaging it or losing. Besides I grew up on the feel of an actual book and I think I’ve grown addicted to that

  28. I still prefer the physical copy of the book, but the ebooks are easier to hold when reading. I don’t have to worry about trying to to break the spine. BUt I love my over stuffed bookshelves. I read/review the egallies on my kindle

  29. Though I had a kindle2 (but gave it to a friend when I won my Kindle3) I still prefer my paperbacks over ebooks. Ebooks are embroidered in too much drama and I rather feel the actual book in my hand, feel the weight, feel the paper, and well you don’t have to worry about dropping and breaking it, nor charging it.

  30. i love a book in my hand. i prefer hardback, then trade and then paper. i think i like about the kindle is i have a ton of books at my finger tips and some ebooks are not available in print.

  31. I have a Kindle but I really love paperback books best. Something about holding a real book makes me happy.

  32. I love both though I have been getting more and more into ebooks simplely because I can carry a lot of book on a reader and they take up less space.

  33. I have gotten some ebooks that I read on the computer and I have enjoyed that, but I also like the feel of a book in my hand.
The idea of having so many books that can fit into my purse is very tempting for travel, but I haven’t bought an e-reader yet. Maybe one day….

  34. I prefer paperbacks. I don’t have an e-reader, but I do read ebooks on my computer.

  35. I do have a kindle and absolutely love it.

But it will never, never replace paper books for me. There’s is just something about holding the actual book in your hands. Turning the pages yourself. It just brings such a unique feel to the atmosphere of reading.

  36. I like both, but still give paperbacks an edge–there’s something about turning pages and being able to flip through that I can’t get with an e-reader…

  37. I prefer paperbacks. There is just something about holding a nice new crisp paperback in your hands while reading….and yes, that new book smell that helps set the reading mood.

  38. Do we have to choose? I like both and read both paper and ebooks (kindle and nook)…..lol

  39. This is a good question, I love my paperbacks! But sometimes I can’t get to my local book store to buy the books I’ve been waiting for. So, easy solution? Get on my nook or kindle for pc find the book in the shop, and read read read! Then, down the road, if I get the chance, I’ll buy it in paperback.

  40. i prefer paperbacks! i love the way holding a book and feeling the pages as you turn, as compared a kindle or ebook, you feel nothing

  41. Honestly, there is nothing like having a physical book in your hands. The feel of the cover and the pages as you read give you something that ereaders can not. Saying that…. I do love the fact that I can have so many books on my ereader and not taking up space. In the end though I normally get books because I can get them cheaper than ebooks…

  42. I prefer chapter books over ebooks I love the feel of a good book in my hand and teh way they smell I like ebooks too dont ge me wrong I just like regular books better im aprint book junky

  43. That’s kind of a hard question because I love both. Up until a few months ago I would have said paperback all the way but ever since I got my Kindle I’m leaning a little bit more towards my Kindle. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing like holding a paperback in your hands and smelling the paperback smell but it is just so comfy to read from my Kindle. I especially love it when it comes to holding hardbacks.

  44. I still prefer paperbacks over my Kindle. I just love the feel of an actual book in my hands. I love my Kindle for when I’m taking trips though because one Kindle takes up less space than a stack of books.

  45. I don’t have a Kindle. Personally I love the feel and smell of a book in my hands- not to mention that I work nights- so I get eye strain from the screens. Keep up the great work! Can’t wait for Jaded!

  46. I prefer paperbacks. My Kindle is great for things that I can’t find or for travel reading, but it just doesn’t compare to holding a book.

  47. I like paperbacks and my Sony ereader equally.I’m running out of room,so the ereader comes in handy.

  48. I really can’t decide which I like better. They both have advantages. I love my “real’ books. I have 5 bookcases over-filled, and I love looking at them and sometimes pulling one out to re-read. I love having them autographed by the authors when I can..which is not possible with ebooks. But…I can carry hundreds of books in my purse with my Kindle. Soooo convenient! Driving down the highway and think of a book you meant to buy? click…done! Ok…make that RIDING down the highway…driving and clicking would NOT be cool lol. Quite often ebooks can be cheaper. You can find many older titles in ebooks now that are out of print. But I reread less cuz the book doesn’t catch my eye in a Kindle file. Kindle books don’t have pretty covers. And if you want to go back a few pages and reread something, paper books are easier to hold your page while looking. Soooo..yeah…I love both, and can’t decide which is a fav. guess I’ll just keep reading both 🙂

  49. It all depends. I love having books so I can get them autographed by my favorite authors. You can’t do that on the e-reader.

My e-reader is great for travel. It also helps me make a better selection of having which particularly paperback books to be part of my personnel library. I can read the books on my e-reader and if I love a particular story, the paperback book goes in my personnel library. I still love getting my paperback books autographed. You can beat that.

  50. I haven’t tried an eReader yet, but my sister-in-law got one for her birthday so I’ll have a chance to try it. I can see where eReaders could be nice for travel, but I’m sure I’ll never totally give up paper.

  51. I am partial to having a paperback but I’m getting used to my kindle. 🙂

  52. Love paperbacks best, hardbound, then audio-books. Have yet to find time to try e-books, but my brother and son both love their Kindles.

  53. I use both paper books and ebooks (on 3 different devices). All the options have pros and cons. But if I had to choose just one type, it would be paper books. I love to carry around a book. I love the way it feels. And I love to share favorite books and get other people hooked!

  54. I prefer books in general I think lol… I read a lot of both. Have readers/pc stocked with ebooks and my nightstand and dresser filled with frequently visited tbr piles. The portability, space saving, and such is awesome on ebooks – plus have found some great ebook only authors. I will still always love to hold the book in my hand, flip through the pages, browse through the selection in stores etc though :).

  55. I prefer paperbacks. I really only like ebooks whenI travel. It is so much easy to have all my books on my ipad.

  56. I don’t own a reading device, but I do occasionally download books onto my computer. I prefer reading paperback books. There’s something special about the way a book feels in my hand and the look of the cover.

  57. Although I enjoy both, I have a preference for paperback books. But I do like the convenience of the ereader when I travel, I used to pack 4 to 6 books to take with me and would still end up buying more, and not to mention having to deal with the added weight to my suitcase. So the ereader eliminates the issue of how many books to take because you can essentially take as many as you want and without any additional weight to your luggage lol

  58. I don’t have a real preference. Both fit a need. I like the feel of a paperback, but prefer to take my Nook when traveling anywhere. I will, for a couple of authors, continue to buy their paper back books, just to have.

  59. Though I do have a Kindle and think it is totally awesome, I prefer paperback 🙂

  60. I enjoy both!!

I have a huge collection of both.

I’m in need of updating my ebookreader. I have an old ebookwise which is wonderful, but doesn’t read pdf’s!! boohoo.

  61. I love both my kindle and real paperback books. I carry my kindle with me everywhere so I can read no matter where I am. But I love the feel of books, so I still buy those. However, I’ve been good and only buy books for certain authors where I’ve already started a particular series of theirs in paperback.

  62. A paperback to me is a ‘real’ book. It’s tangible. I have a kindle & love it but it’s elusive and vapour. I half expect the stories to vanish & go back to whence they came & trust me they have.

  63. I know I”m too late to enter but would like to answer the question, anyway. Actually I prefer both. I have both a Sony Reader and Kindle and I love both. I have been following many lesser known authors for years and they only publish in ebook format, so the ereaders are quite wonderful.

On the other hand, I have started many series in paperback and would like to continue reading them in that format. Plus there is just something about holding a book which I enjoy. And I have tons of book markers which I just love. I really can’t use them with an ereader, can I?? 🙂

  64. I’ll take my books any way I can get them so I have no preference between print books or e-books.
