So far I’ve really been enjoying the summer. I hope you have too. The weather has been mild, for the most part, yet warm enough for swimming and running through the sprinkler. This fills my daughter with lots of joy, joy that I get to partake in too. 🙂 My world is just about perfect when she’s laughing. When I’m not hanging with my daughter outside, I’m writing.
At the moment I’m working on Witch Fury, the last of the books in the Elemental Witch series. I’m angling toward the end of the book now, gearing up for the fireworks display that will bring the story of the Coven witches, the warlocks, and the daaeman to an end. It’s a bittersweet thing. I’m excited about my next project, yet it’s always hard to say goodbye to characters that you’ve spent years with. It’s hard to close up a world that’s lived in your mind, one that you’ve created and populated and that exists so vibrantly in your subconscious that you dream about it at night.
My next project is another series, this time one based on pre-Celtic myth. Before the year is out I plan to write a novella set in this new world and get a good start on the first full length novel of the series. Right now I’m reading and researching, taking notes and building my world. I’m reading some Yeats (apparently he believed in faeries. Who knew? Maybe you did, but I didn’t). I’m also finishing up Gods and Fighting Men, by Lady Gregory.
So, I’m closing up one world and opening another.
But before you see that new world, there will be two more Elemental Witch books released. In fact, here is the cover for Witch Heart, the third in the series. Pretty, huh? The cover artist is Tony Mauro. I think I’ll keep it. 😉
With the immense powers of an earth witch, Claire isn’t destined to be a demon’s handmaiden. Yet this has been her fate since she was six, when her warlock mother brought her to Eudae. Now at thirty-one, she’s about to discover her true power—and how far others are willing to go to take it away…
As part of a mission with the Coven, Adam Tyrell rescues Claire from her enslavement—and finds himself immediately taken with the beautiful witch. But this charming playboy soon learns that it’s easier to steal Claire from demons than win her heart, for her life as a servant has ravaged her spirit. But with Adam determined to protect her from the warlocks who want to harness her magick for evil, Claire’s resistance starts to give way—and they find themselves in the heat of danger, surrendering to the lure of their deepest desires…
Witch Heart will be out on January 6, 2009. It’s available for pre-order now on Amazon.com. This year is flying by so fast, it seems like the release date will be here in no time.
It’s been a while since I’ve had a contest over here, so let’s do one. One random poster will get her choice from my backlist. Pick a title from any publisher. One snag is that if you pick something from my EC backlist, it’ll have to be in ebook since I don’t have any extras of those titles in print right now. Comment on anything you want. About how you’re spending your summer, on the weather, on the prettiness of my new cover ;), on worldbuilding, what you’re reading right now. Anything you want, as long as it’s of substance. Blank posts or “I’m posting to enter” posts will be disqualified, (I get those sometime from the sweepstakes people and I call foul on that one).
Have a fabulous day, you all!! I plan to spend mine working on Witch Fury.
I love the cover. It’s so gorgeous.
My summer has been somewhat exciting. We just bought our first house so we’re doing the home improvement thing now. It’s been 10 years in the making, but we’ve finally did it. I’m excited.
I’m currently reading Marta Acosta’s Midnight Brunch – it’s pretty good so far.

Love the cover – especially like the autumnal colouring 😀
Summer so far has been a full house as various offspring return home for visits 😀
by Ilona July 8th, 2008 at 11:31 amLove the cover and the blurb Anya. This has been such a fun series to read, I love the world you’ve created and can’t wait to dive back in with Witch Heart.
by Cathy M July 8th, 2008 at 12:30 pmThis is my first time commenting on your blog. My summer is not exciting, because where I work it our busy time, so I can’t time off.
So right now I’m currently reading Witch Blood, by you. I absolutely love it. I loved Witch Fire. I am so glad there will be to more books in this series. But I hate to see the series end.
by Greta July 8th, 2008 at 5:15 pmSigh.. my summer is going to be so-so. Dh is doing a bi-coastal commute weekly. Looks liek there will be no vacation this summer.
On the good side I’m going out to SF and will be able to make the author signing at RWA. I’ll get to spend time visiting with good friends.
I was at my local B&N looking for some of your books. Looks like I’ll have to be ordering online.

by Pamk July 8th, 2008 at 7:25 pmThe Witch Heart cover looks HOT!! Figuratively and literally! 😆 Can’t wait to read it!
I’m enjoying my summer with my kids home from school –getting up late, reading together, playing board games, going to the pool, going on bike rides, toasting marshmallows, staying up late… Life is good. 😎
by Christine July 9th, 2008 at 7:05 amI love the cover for Witch Heart…it is definitely eye catching!
My summer has not been too exciting. We don’t really have any big plans. Hopefully, we will be heading to Iowa in August for my Grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary…if the husband and I can get time off. My kids have already let me know…14, 13, and 11…that if we cannot go then they are going with my folks…who will of course take them.
by Lori T July 9th, 2008 at 7:52 amWhat a beautiful cover. I love it. 🙂 Witch Heart sounds great.
by CrystalGB July 9th, 2008 at 11:05 amThe cover of “Witch Heart” is lovely. I haven’t done anything exciting this summer, but I’ll be going to a baseball game tomorrow.
by Jane July 9th, 2008 at 12:40 pmI love love love the covers to your elemental witch series, Anya. They’re gorgeous and eye catching, and I love them. (Yes, I said it again.)
by limecello July 9th, 2008 at 2:29 pmAs for this summer… it’s pretty “meh.” I got in a car accident (their fault) – but insurance is dragging it out- and I have medical bills, and my boss says not to settle, and I’m taking classes for the first time in my life during the summer, and my birthday wasn’t too fun either. Haha, I was amused, however, when I went to a bbq for the 4th, and my friend got a cake for me and his sister, and it said “Happy Birthday, Losers.” 😛 Guess that’s to be expected when you grow up with someone.
I’m definitely interested in your new series, Anya – I love myths, but my focus was heavily on classical mythology. [Probably excessively]
Oh the cover is fab Anya (I too came in and saw the cover for THE CHOSEN SIN and I’m in cover heaven over here!) I can’t believe you’re working on the last of the WITCH books, They will be missed but great for re-reading! But have two to go so can’t wait!
Oh its been a humid summer and uncomfy one here! Usually its not that bad here but this summer has been a strange one on the East and started so early. Makes me wonder how our Winter will be since I love snow!
I haven’t read much at all on pre-Celtic or Celtic but always wanted to so I know I can look forward to that with you! If I go and look it up, I’ll be lost on the internet for the rest of the day, thats how immersed I get with anything historical or fantasy! For me, fantasy reads (and paranormal) I first discovered with ebooks and I just love finding more. It was Greek gods I read in a ebook and I had a blast looking it up and then reading any ebooks I could find and I still do grab those to read! I do that with Witches now too, LOL.
Are you going to be writing more for SPICE?
by Caffey July 9th, 2008 at 3:24 pmPS If I repeat anything, ignore me, I’m catching up with all your news 😀
by Caffey July 9th, 2008 at 3:25 pmI would chose The Chosen Sin, that sounds great.
I think it’s funny that our winters can get so cold and we want to be warm, but when it gets too hot and muggy, we want to be cool or chilled, lol. This year is going by so quickly, it will be Christmas before you know it. 🙂
by Dina July 10th, 2008 at 3:38 pmLove the cover, Anya. It’s fantastic.
Its winter where I am and today is freezing cold, wet and blowing a gale! I envy you all with the lovely hot weather you are having. Come on Summer; I hate the cold.
by Lilly K July 10th, 2008 at 6:47 pmI love the cover! The colours are awesome and the cover art is beautiful 🙂 You lucked out again!
by Erin the Innocent July 12th, 2008 at 9:41 pmThis is my first comment here with Anya…Cheyenne McCray recommended your books and am I ever so glad she did. I went thru both Witch Blood and Witch Fire and have my friends hooked on you now!! The cover for Witch Heart is amazing. Her eyes are so piercing!!! Beautiful work! I absolutely cannot wait to read it!
On to my summer…it’s been great, the fam has been to the beach a couple of times, had my birthday week long celebration and loving my new found obsession…Anya’s books!
Have a great one! 😀
by Chas July 15th, 2008 at 6:21 amThe cover prettiness if the main thing I can comment on, cause the weather here is hot and humid and did I mention hot?
