Long time, no post (and a contest)

I’ve been mired deep in writing the end of Wicked Enchantment. Well, that combined with dealing with an ice storm one week and hurricane force winds the next. The weather has done a number on the trees in our yard. It’s a mess. If we had a fireplace we’d be set for life with wood.

During the ice storm we lost power for a week. Luckily, we managed to get into a local hotel, so we didn’t have to freeze our patoochies off in the silent, dark house. Unluckily, I had a Writerspace chat for Witch Heart that week and, for whatever strange and bizarre reason, I couldn’t get into the chat room from the hotel. I was forbidden. Ooooo, ominous. I was also very, very frustrated. I hope you all can forgive me.

Then on the night I was supposed to attend the Writerspace Valentine’s Day chat, guess what? I was home, but we had no power again. It was those pesky hurricane force winds. It wasn’t out for a week this time (thank the deities!) but it was enough to cause me to miss that one too.

Okay, third time’s the charm….

I have a Writerspace chat to discuss Taken this Wednesday, Feb 18th at 9:00pm eastern. I WILL BE THERE!!!!!!! *shakes fist at the weather gods* I will be there, because NO WAY can I lose electricity and/or be stuck “forbidden” in a hotel room for the third time in a row. Do you hear me, O, gods of inclement weather? I have checked weather.com and all looks clear.

Of course, my troubles are nothing next to what those in Australia have been experiencing. I hope this post finds all those down under safe and sound. πŸ™

Now, on to some good stuff!

Wicked Enchantment, the first in my new series, is nearly done. Well, the first draft of the novel is nearly done, that is. I’ll revise and polish the hell and damnation out of it before I call it finished.

And! It’s Valentine’s Day. Yay for V day. Even if you don’t have a romantic-type sweetie in your life, I’m sure you can find someone or something on which to bestow love and gratitude. Today I’m thankful not only for the love of my husband, but for that of my daughter, the many cats I am owned by, and the best dog in the whole world.

Just because, I’m giving away a book today. I have a bunch to send out, (if you’re waiting on a book from me, it’s coming), so why not one more?

Comment on this post and you’ll be entered to win an autographed copy of Witch Heart. I’ll leave the contest going till next Tuesday and then I’ll post the winner. Tell me what you’re reading lately, what you’re doing for V Day, or whatever. Post anything of content (no “post” or “I’m posting to enter.”) — talk to me, peeps.

  1. I hope you are doing well with all of the “weather” issues. I can’t wait to read the Witch books. I have been entering every contest that you have had for an autographed copy. So here I am (on Valentine’s Day) entering yet another contest, while the love of my life plays with his new toy. 42″ HD TV!

What are you doing for V Day?

  2. Happy Valentine’s Day to you!

My hubby has to work today. But he loves Valentine’s Day and treats it like Christmas. So while the kids and I were sleeping, he got up and set up on the dining room table my gift, roses, candy and cards. He also sets up candy and cards for the kids too. I’ll spend the day reading and when he gets home tonight we will sit and watch a movie together.

  3. Happy Valentine’s Day! πŸ˜€ As for what I am reading, I have to decide if I want to pick a book out of my pile or turn to one of my e-books… at this moment I am undecided! Best Wishes sent your way!

  4. Happy Valentines, Anya!

Just finished reading “I’m Watching You” by Karen Rose and currently reading “Nothing to Fear” also by Karen Rose.

  5. Sorry about all the bad weather luck, it can only get better.

Tonight my family will get together for pizza and a movie.

  6. I am working in London right now, so today a bunch of my friends and I got together and went on the London Eye. In case you have never heard of it, it is a huge ferris wheel that looks over the city. we got our own capsule and split a chocolate cake (store bought, haha) and wine.

right now i am actually reading the ghost walker series by christine feehan. I am up to predatory game πŸ™‚

    xoxo

    happy vday everyone!

  7. We always do Chinese. Hubby doesn’t really recognize V-day on Feb 14th. So we compromised and agreed we’d always get chinese on Feb 14th.

    Happy Valentine’s Day to yoU!

  8. Well *fingers crossed* you are done with the weather stuff! VD today is a day of cleaning. We have let out place get out of shape and it looks gross. BUT I am planning a nice finger food dinner where we can feed each other! πŸ˜€ I hope….lol

  9. I’m just about done with Dragonborn by Jade Lee, a great read!

  10. I hope your weather is better from now on. You’ve definitely had some really bad luck with it lately. While we haven’t had the same problems with the power going out here, we have definitely had some strong winds.

My only plan for today is to relax at home, do my normal Saturday routine of cleaning and laundry and maybe walk up to my grandparents house to visit for a little while. I know they’ll be happy to see me, especially my grandmother since I have a book for her.

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

  11. I am so single on Valentines Day that I could not even get my neighbor to watch a movie with me tonight (talk about pathetic), I spent the day going thru my movie collection and getting it ready for me to go back to CT next month for work. This requires taking all my movies out of their boxes and putting them into cd storage cases cause I just do not have the space to take almost 300 movies with me any other way. I am also spending this weekend trying to go through my clothes and such and get them ready to go north also. I own way too much stuff to take it all with me when I am spending the spring and summer in a little room. I hope you had a much better Valentines than I did.

  12. Hi Anya and Happy Valentines Day! Right now I am reading Cherry Adair’s latest book, Night Shadows. It’s Fantastic! If you haven’t read any of her T-Flac/psi unit books, you should. Valentines Day this year is kind of laid back. My husband had an all day meeting today, so tonight my family is staying home and we’re having heart shaped pizza for dinner. How romantic can you get! Hope your V-Day is a good one!

  13. Happy V Day Anya-
I am just finishing up Dead Right by Cate Noble. I love finishing up a good book and the anticipation of picking out the next one to read.

Nothing much happening on my Valentine’s Day. Just me and the mutt snuggled in on a cold winter night.

  14. Happy Valentine’s Day! I had planned to go to movie and dinner with my husband and woke up sick. Not feeling so pretty today. lol So, I slept all day and now I’m catching up on the blog posts that I missed.

  15. Have noticed that everyone’s being very careful this year to call it V-Day. Because last year I snickered every time someone wrote “VD”. Oddly apt, though, considering there’s bound to be a lot of unprotected shagging on v-Day… πŸ˜‰

My suburb still has an eerie orange glow and a smoke haze, so I’ve been staying inside so I can breathe better.

As for V-Day (yesterday) – I spent the night on the couch watching my favourite A-League team, Melbourne Victory, win their match, and we’ll be hosting the Grand Final in two weeks’ time πŸ˜€

Currently in progress of reading three books – Kelley Armstrong’s Men of the Otherworld, R. J. Anderson’s Knife (published in the US under a different title), and Vicki Pettersson’s The Touch of Twilight.

    Have a lovely day! πŸ™‚

  16. I’ve had the same weather problems! My has has been lovin it though.

  21. My friend made me chicken meatloaf and baked it in heart shaped pans. I just read Mary Hughes Biting Nixie which was fun. I hope to start Deborah Cooke’s Kiss of Fire.

  22. Valentine’s Day was pretty nice in our household. I stayed up late Friday night to put out Lady K’s prezzies of a teddy bear, a box of chocolate, the latest Backyardigans DVD and some stickers (always have to have stickers). I received my present earlier in the week. I sent DH the link to a gold band I saw on etsy.com and he ordered it for me as a thumb ring. I got him the mp3 player I’d been promising forever and I spent all week loading it up with Southern rock and some north of the Mason-Dixon line.
Went to Olive Garden for lunch and had a chill day.

  24. I was so excited for Valentine’s Day. for some reason that is one of my favorite days. I don’t really know why, I mean it really is just a day. My husband and I don’t exchange gifts we usually cook out steaks and watch tv together. I think its just knowing that its a day of romance.
So this year I had a great romantic night set in mind. But it was foiled. We wen out to eat with our son and his friend(our son was going to spend the night with his friend) and my husband and I got sick!!
I was so mad! I know its just a day but I had the night all planned out in my mind and then it was ruined! My husband said we’ll just try it again next week-end but I was still mad.
I hope everyone else had a great valentine’s day! I can’t wait to read Taken.

  33. Hi Anya, I love your books. I hope that you had a marvelous Valentine’s Day. I have no sweetie this year. I spent my Valentine’s reading numerous romance novels–I’m a sucker for a HEA. I read Shelly Laurenston’s Go Fetch, Terry Spear’s Destiny of the Wolf, and the anthology Doing It the Hard Way. It was an enjoyable Valentine’s Day. I can’t wait for Shelly Laurenston’s next books. She makes me crack up so much. πŸ™‚

What is your new series about? And Wicked Enchantments?

Take care. Hope your connection to the Internet is no longer threatened by the weather gods. Or is threatened less as the weather hopefully warms up.
