Okay, hold on…I’ve got lots to say.
It’s almost RT time!! Because of RT and because I’m soon to have house guests, I’ve been madly preparing…and not blogging. Maybe you have noticed the not-blogging part. I apologize, if so. Will you be RT? Say hi, okay? I’m super friendly, so don’t be shy. I will have my camera with me at RT and will try to blog from there. Sometimes I can manage this, sometimes not. I’ll certainly try, though!
Live in PA? I’ll be participating in a booksigning with Megan Hart and Lauren Dane on Monday April 14 from 6 – 8 pm at the Borders/Waldenbooks at the Lebanon Valley Mall in Lebanon Pennsylvania. I hope to see you there!
Witch Blood received a Top Pick review from Romance Reader at Heart!
Shannon says in part, “I love WITCH BLOOD! With its fantastic characters, complex plot and super hot scenes, this is most certainly a slam dunk Top Pick. Great writing, sci-fi scenery, witchery, crazed demons and so much more, WITCH BLOOD is a read that I cannot stop thinking about. I enjoyed every minute of it…. WITCH BLOOD is a read you do NOT want to miss.”
Thank you, Shannon!

In fact, all three of the deadlines that made my March so, uhm, interesting have been met. WHEW! Now I’ll start going through the requests for What Happens in Vegas… that I’ve received and if you’ve been expecting a prize from me, those will be going out too.
I’ve had a million emails about this…Claire is the heroine of Witch Heart. :0) Adam is the male main.
As soon as I can, I’ll dig up an excerpt.

I’m still in deadline hell and it’s crazier than ever. Everything is due at the end of this month, so that means the first week of April I’m on VAYCAY. I’m going to need at least a week to recover from this month’s crazy, hellish deadline stress.
So a few evenings ago it was brought to my attention that my books are being downloaded willy nilly and in great numbers from several pirating web sites and forums. Some people are even asking for “donations” for them. I can’t even express how high my blood pressure went up as I explored these venues, saw how the thieves were scrambling author names and titles in order to avoid detection and read all of the generalizations for their bad behavior.
I hesitated to write about this at all because I don’t want to draw more people to these sites and lose even more money to thievery. Because that’s what it is, plain and simple. Thievery. It’s impossible to rationalize it any other way. I waited a couple days to write about this because it worked me up so badly. The cool off period helped, but now I can feel my blood pressure rising again.
I don’t make a lot of money, folks. When all is said and done, I make the same amount as your average office worker…only without the benefits. I make as much money per year as most of you. Writing isn’t a career that’s going to put you on easy street. For most authors it’s a hobby that provides a little extra pocket money. Writers write because they love it, but I have to say that when I visit these thieving sites it makes me love it a little less.
I sacrifice a lot to write. When my husband has a good movie to watch at night, or a good TV show, usually I can’t watch it with him. I have to use that time in the evenings to write. I lose sleep to write. I miss time with my family to write. I sacrifice time to just relax in order to write. I do all of this for a small amount of money. This is my choice, I know, but to see people just taking my books for free and thinking that it’s okay makes me rethink that choice.
What if you picked up your paycheck at the end of the week and saw that people had taken money out of it? Stolen away hours of your work just because they could? Wouldn’t it make you mad? What people fail to understand is that even a loss of a couple hundred sales to eBook thievery can harm an author’s career. It’s not hurting the publisher, it’s hurting the author.
To any eBook thieves out there — Don’t steal. It’s wrong. There’s no rationalization for it, and I’m not going to waste my time addressing all the excuses I’ve seen for it. Your parents taught you better, I know they did. You should be ashamed of yourself and you know it. Do the right thing, okay? I shouldn’t have to ask.
The bottom line is that if the thievery I saw a couple evenings ago keeps on at that unbelievable rate, there’s not going to be any more authors to steal from.

Hey guy, stop by Barbara Vey’s blog today and leave a comment. It’s her anniversary. This is Publishers Weekly only romance oriented blog (that I’m aware of), so go show her some love. Oh, there’s prizes to be had too!
Later I’ll be back with a very rare rant about EBOOK THIEVES. Oh, man, I am revved up them today and I have a whole bunch to say just as soon as I can find some time to scream…er…say it.

Dear reader —
When I’m writing a series like the Elemental Witches, I don’t always know which secondary characters might intrigue me enough to get their own story. But as soon as Thomas Monahan appeared on the page while I was writing the first book in this series, Witch Fire, I knew I wanted to get to know him better. In fact, I was so intrigued by his character that I knew almost immediately the next book in the series would be his.
Thomas was so buttoned up, so uptight, such a workaholic. Like the element he commands, he’s very stable and steady–good qualities, though Thomas takes them to an extreme. In Witch Fire, his character was in dire need of a night absolute reckless abandon, something to get him to loosen his tie a little. What he really needed was a woman who wasn’t afraid of him, someone to ruffle his hair and turn his world on end. In Witch Blood, I needed the right heroine to make that happen.
Enter Isabelle Novak. Emotional, chaotic, impulsive and unpredictable, Isabelle is ruled by her heart rather than her head. And like the element she commands, she is changeable, flowing and, if you’re not careful, can slip right through your fingers. She is everything that Thomas is not and everything he needs–even if he doesn’t know it. On the other hand, Thomas provides a stability that Isabelle can benefit from. Her life has had little constancy and she’s suffered for it.
On the surface, Thomas and Isabelle seem like the worst possible match, yet they fill up each other’s empty places and they are explosive together. From the first time they meet there is a chemistry between them they can’t deny. They both know they’re taking huge risks by falling in love and both of them, Isabelle especially, fight it. But the attraction they share and the qualities they possess–qualities the other needs–keep drawing them together.
And a demon keeps drawing them apart.
In Witch Blood, Thomas, Isabelle and the Coven will face a threat even more dire than the Duskoff warlocks, a threat that wants to ensure that Thomas and Isabelle never get that happily-ever-after they’re working toward (despite themselves).
Both Thomas and Isabelle will have to reach way down deep inside themselves for strength not only of the physical, but of the emotional, to meet the violent challenge that a loose demon on Earth offers…and to save themselves.
I hope you enjoy discovering Isabelle and Thomas as much I did while I was writing them. Stop by my web site and drop me a note anytime to let me know how you liked Witch Blood. www.anyabastauthor.com
Come along with Thomas and Isabelle and delve further into the world of the elemental witches. I dare you to go head to head with an Atrika demon.

At the end of Witch Blood there’s a teaser for a book called The Darkest Kiss. We actually had to change the title of that book at the last minute to The Chosen Sin because there are a couple other books coming out this year called The Darkest Kiss (great minds, I guess *g*).
In any case, if you’re looking for The Chosen Sin, it’s already up on Amazon.com as a pre-order! I should have a cover for it soon, too. All know so far is it has a hot guy on it. That’s fitting because…well, you’ll just have to meet Alejandro Martinez.
In any case, The Chosen Sin will be out with Berkley Heat in early October 2008. Here’s a blurb…
In this sensuous and lust-filled otherworld, the Chosen are vampires fighting for their very existence.
It is Daria’s destiny to become one of them…
Daria Morris is a special forces agent with one obsession: to wreak vengeance on the brutal vampire who nearly destroyed her. Now she’s finally about to get her chance, on one condition. She must become something she detests: a vampire.
Her fate rests upon one man’s lethal bite. His name is Alejandro Martinez, and he can help her infiltrate a highly guarded group of the Chosen. But Alejandro is also a distraction for Daria. Because thirteen years ago, they shared a scorching night of passion neither has forgotten.
Now, while Daria struggles against her newfound bloodlust, the two must slip into the shadows to bring a monster to justice—even as their desire threatens to consume them. But under the cover of night, they’ll discover that it’s the darkness within that may stand in the way of their hunger for retribution…

I will be posting, since the release of Witch Blood is near (and already released at some book retailers!). Plus, I’ve read a bunch of books lately that I want to blog about. However, overall, my blogging will be a bit chaotic for the next few weeks since I’m under deadline for Witch Heart, third in the Elemental Witches Series and also for the novella, The Promise, for the anthology that will sequel What Happens in Vegas….
But I am officially under the deadline gun.
Oooooh, I finally crashed on the couch and watched 3:10 to Yuma late last night with my husband. I thought was I would expire from hotness. *fans self* Oh, it was a good movie too. 😉
